Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome side effects Posted: 04-02-08 15:49pm
Ok, heres the deal... Do not judge me for
my age, that is not my question. I am 17
years old. I have a fiance who i have been
dating for 3 years. He is in his 2nd year
of a very good college for mechanical
engineering. I am still in high school but
already we have our own house that has is
being paid for by my mom [ its small but a
3 bedroom and in a nice neighborhood] The
reason my mom is paying for my house rite
now is because when my parents got
divorced they put in the divorce papers
that my mom pays for my housing when im in
college and my dad pays for 3/4 of college
tuition... so yea this house is considered
my dorm for college beacuse the payment
evenr month is actually less than college
dorm fees... when i graduate i have to
pay for the rest of the house... i have a
good amount of money in the bank from
working since i was 13 and money my mom
has saved for me since i was little and
some from a grandparent that passed... i
have my own car that is payed off and my
fiance has a good job and will be making
$60,000 out of college in 2 years... We
are planning on trying for a baby next
spring when i will be 18 1/2 and he will
be almost 20 ... this is OUR decision... i
do know how hard rasing a baby is because
i have been there.. up all night when
there sick and not being able to go out
with friends... i pretty much raised my
twin nephews my sister abandoned when they
were only 6 months old. i also know IT
WILL be harder than that because even then
i didnt have to worry about the money
sitution or going through the pregnancy
and my mom was obviously there to help...
My fiance and I have discussed this many
times and feel this is what we want and
fits us as a couple.
Just wanted to give you some background
info before i asked my question... But
also I have PCOS [ polycystic ovarian
syndrom]
I was wondering what complications this
could cause, what i can do to prevent
them, or if it will be better to have my
children at a younger age since i know
this condition can cause infertility.
Also... with the information provided, if
there is any other responsiblities/
sacrifices i have forgot about or not
considerd that u can help me with since I
am young and by all means DO NOT want to
make the wrong choice....

You should go see your doctor to discuss
your PCOS with him. There are steps women
can take with PCOS to try to get pregnant.

Thanks.. yea i am on some meds for other
PCOS complications, but i feel i need a
new doctor... most of the time, I TELL
HIM WHAT MEDS TO PERSCRIBE ME! he doesnt
know of many meds at all and i usualy
research them online and they tell him
"hey i herd of this med for this" and he
just gives me a perscription... but its
annoying, im going to a doctor to skip the
diagnosing myself part...
I just want to stay away from the meds
that give you higher chances of
multiples...

well if it makes you feel more positive, I
have pcos, I was diagnosed at 14, and I'm
pregnant, and I'm only 19. It was the
first time I had sex with my boyfriend
that I got pregnant. So it might not be
too hard, it depends, though I also don't
have cysts on my ovaries so , I don't know
what yours is like. But * got pregnant and
the fact that your so young will work in
your favor.

Thanks Butterfly!!! That did give me hope
and yes the doctor said as I get older
infertility will be more likely, Ive herd
age will work in my favor many times,
thats one of the reasons my fiance and I
have planned on having a baby so
young...at least one... and we want to
wait to have or 2nd when our first is in
kindergarten or first grade... and by that
time IF i am having problems getting
pregnant, then we will have the money to
either adopt or do some dor of in-vitro...

ohhh and also... anyone know of any
complications PCOS causes while
pregnant??
my doc said 50% of women with PCOS develop
diabetes by time they are 40 [and its
veryy common to get early with PCOS
too!]... so does this mean i have a higher
risk of gestational diabetes?

oh wow I didnt know that about the
diabetes. I hope I don't. Well i'm 7 weeks
as of today!! So seeing as how your even
younger then me, i think you have a good
chance, I'm worried that if I ever try
fora second one in the future I wont be
able to without going bankrupt.

Yeah I totally understand that. I've known
a lot of people who had to take drugs to
get pregnant. My sister has pcos and she's
24 years old, and practically sterile.
She's been doing fertility treatments for
over a year, and has yet to get pregnant.
So, I actually don't mind being as young
as I am. And I see your point and don't
think theres anything wrong with wanting a
baby at 187, especially in our situation.
pcos sucks to have.
There is abook entitled PCOS and Your
Fertility by Colette Harris and Theresa
Cheung (ISBN: 1-4019-0293-6) that you
might find useful.
It gives you some things you can do to
boost your fertility (non-drugs) and also
tells you about the medical options. It
also goes into the risks and complications
and what you can do to minimise them.
Best wishes,
Heather

Thanks so much girlies! Thanks for the
support...
And to make the situation a little better
about being so young and a mom... we
talked to the university [I will be going
to the same college as my fiance] and they
informed us that we can work out our class
schedules so that both of us do not have
class at the same times, so we will not
need someone to babysit the baby... thats
my biggest fear is leaving my child with a
babysitter unless its like my mom, which
im going to be living about 2000 miles
from my mom lol and his mom is not happy
about him marrying me in the first place
[ because im not baptisti and not 100%
puerto rican like him, and I born or
raised in Puerto Rico] =[ ugh mother in
laws lol
