My brother & I have researched bipolar
to an extreme. He knows a few people that
have been diagnosed with the disorder
& is very familiar with it & the
symptoms. My mother has always had these
symptoms. The problem is we can't get her
to seek help. She thinks she is perfectly
fine when she goes into these episodes of
major conflict, no sleep & insisting
on not leaving the house. She has had
many episodes. My family wants to help
her get help. Can you give me any advice
on how to do that when she refuses help
& thinks she's perfectly fine?

It's difficult to get someone help if they
do not want it.
It's even harder with the HIPPA laws now.
Can you possibly talk to her doctor, not
asking him about her health just let
him/her know what you are observing r talk
to your own doctor?

WOW! Heres my mom story-
Just this last Christmas I noticed some
major changes with my mom. She'd lost a
lot of weight because she wasnt eating (as
usual) but the conversations she was
having were becoming more and more
surreal. The deal breaker for me was when
she called me for a ride- and wanted to
stay with me becuase she thought my dad
wanted to hurt her. You only need to meet
my dad once to know this is completly
untrue-
Long story short, I ended up having to
take her into the hospital because she was
in pyscosis-
Since then, (she was hospitalized for a
month) she refuses to admit there is a
problem- refuses to take medications and
no longer talks to me. Now Im freaking out
because once I started researching, it
sounded alot like me too-
I dont even want to open that door- good
luck! I tell you though, now that I know
she's bipolar it sure explains a lot of my
childhood. Aparently she was diagnosed at
13 years old after two suicide attemps-
but my dad never thought to tell any of us
kids. Wow.
Sorry, probably not too inspiring but from
what I've learnt of the illness there isnt
anything good about it-
