Preeclampsia Posted: 04-18-08 14:55pm
I was diagnosed with preeclampsia when I
was just at 36 weeks pregnant with my
first child. I was forced into induction
and my baby was born with jaundice.
Luckily for us, she was over 6 pounds.
As of next week when I have my Mirena IUD
removed, we will be trying for a second
child.
My question is, how likely is it that I
will develop preeclampsia this time
around?
My blood pressure was normally around
112/60. When I was sent to the emergency
room with preeclampsia, it was 190/117.
When I had my epidural administered, my
baby's heart rate dropped from 164 to
around 60bpm.
I wasn't sure how to ask a doctor
question....

A friend of mine had preeclamsia with her
first born (unfortunatetly the baby died
20 days after) but then she came to have 2
beautiful children afterwards and as far
as I'm concerned she had no preeclamsia
with them.

I'm sure your risk is slightly higher, but
I don't think it is definitely going to
happen. However I don't really know.
But I think that is an great question to
ask the doctor when you get your coil out.
I'm sure she gets that question
frequently.
You also might want to ask for a
prescription for prenatal vitamins while
you are there. That way you can start them
before you get pregnant.
Let us know how the appt goes! From what I
hear it is fairly painless, but it can
cause some cramping. But, I'm sure it is
different for everyone. I hope you don't
even feel it!

Well, it sure was painful when they were
putting it in... Taking it out can't
possibly be worse, can it? lol
No one in my family knows we are ttc... we
are going to wait until we are pregnant
and shock everyone
I have a ton of questions for the doc at
this point... 5 more days

I had preclampsia with my first also at
36wks and went into labor. When I got
pregnant with my second my dr told me it
is more common with your first pregnancy
than with other ones also if you are over
30 your risk a bit higher. Hope that
helps a little. I am currently pregnant
with my 3rd and so far so good!
