Q: Pregnancy likelihood ?

Hi. I have a question about the possibility of being pregnant.

I had sex about 2 weeks ago, and the condom slipped off. We didn't know until after we had both finished.
I immediately went to the store to get Plan B, and took one pill then and another 12 hrs later, as directed.

I'm on the pill, but prior to having sex I hadn't been taking it at regular times. I believe I missed taking it twice and doubled up the next day. Thus, my partner used a condom.

My period is supposed to come today (my last pill was yesterday). I've taken 3 pregnancy test (2 of which I believe I took too early). But all three came out NEGATIVE.

What is the likelihood that I am pregnant?

thank you

if all three came out negative then you most likely are not pregnant.but just to be safe take a fourth at a health department

There are a few things going on here. First things first, how long have you been on the pill? Usually it is a few days into the sugar pills before a woman starts her period, not immediately.

Second, you shouldn't ever consider a negative pregnancy test taken BEFORE your missed period as accurate. You won't have enough pregnancy hormones built up until you miss your period. So obviously now would be a better time to take a test.

Third, if you would please find the package insert that came with your plan B pills and read it carefully. It should say in there that it is massive dose of hormones that will cause your body to skip ovulation, but it doing so, it will also mess with your period for up to three months. This means your period might not be normal for awhile even though you are not pregnant.

That's a lot of help. I really appreciate it.

So what do you recommend I do until I get my period? To find out if I'm pregnant? Should I just keep taking pregnancy tests every few days? And after how long of doing this can I rule out the likelihood of pregnancy?

Thanks again.

Generally, if you take a pregnancy test a week after your missed period, it should be pretty spot-on accurate.

If you want a definite answer, go to a doctor and request a blood test, which will take 2-3 days before results are ready, but is 100% accurate.

It sounds to me like you're likely fine, but to save yourself some stress, I'd suggest going to a doctor.

ilpleut gave some great advice. Please don't stop taking your birth control pills unless you find out FOR SURE you are pregnant.
