pregnant 6 weeks after abortion ?
Posted: 06-12-08 22:25pm

I recently had an abortion at 10 wks gestation on May 2, 2008. Six weeks later today and i still have no period and no signs of one comming either. This morn i took a pregnancy test and it was positive. Im not on any birth control and been sexually active. Im worried and confused. Is it possible to fall pregnant so soon after an abortion?

Why are you not using birth control if you don't want to be pregnant? I'm assuming the doctors and nurses that performed your abortion instructed you on proper use of birth control to avoid abortions in the future?

Any time you have unprotected sex, pregnancy is possible. If the test is positive, you're pregnant again. If you don't want to be pregnant, you really need to start using birth control or stop having sex.

After your abortion, they will have told you that it is most certainly possible to get pregnant right after an abortion. I agree with Aya and think you should smarten up, unless you think that abortions are tons of fun.

No i dont think that abortions are tons of fun thankyou. If you knew anything about the pill, you would know that it has to be taken the first day of your period. Hence waiting for period? I should also clarify that yes i do use condoms, thats all i can do till my period is due, i have been careful.I should really revise in saying also that the HCG levels that are used to dertermine pregnancy are still present. I was told that it can take upto 6 weeks for them to clear?? Im wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and to maybe clarify that this can be normal?

You said you were not using any birth control. That suggested that you were having unprotected sex. If you were using condoms, you were having protected sex. That would have been one of the first things I would have mentioned.

You should ask your doctor to do a blood test to determine what your hCG level is at. If the condoms did not break, your chances are good that you are not pregnant again.

Nice try, but seeing as how I've studied abortion and the pill for years, you can't pull that on me. http://abortiontoronto.com/ faqs.html Check out the bottom question and you'll see that you can begin taking birth control the Sunday after your abortion, so no, you don't need to wait for a period. Thanks for clarifying that you are indeed using some form of protection, and like Aya said, you're not at a high risk for being pregnant again.

HI Kooshball!!

You should have started taking the PILL ASAP...

I work in an abortion office, I assist with abortion and deal with birth control.

BC can be started ANYTIME you want.. BUT, starting on your period means that you are protected IMMEDIATELY, and it is less likely that you would have breakthrough bleeding or spotting.

NO WORRIES! Do not let judgmental people bother you!

My period came EXACTLY 7 weeks to the day after my abortion. I was so nervous about getting pregnant again that I didn't have sex for 3 months afterward!!! However, a pregnancy test can show a positive reading for a few weeks after an abortion (depending on the amount of HCG the test can detect). If you used condoms, and used them properly, you most likely are not pregnant.
