Redish/dry "raccoon" Rings Around Eyes (maybe Herpes?)
Posted: 11-24-07 22:41pm

I started having problems over a year ago with very dry skin around my eyes. My eye lids up to my eyebrows and below started getting dark red and wrinkled. It made me look sick and has added about 10-20 years to the look because it's very visible.

After trying all kinds of moisturizing creams and eye skin treatments but it never helped. I finally tried lysine cream (super-lysine) and that seemed to help a lot. After all that time suffering from it, I'm sad to say that my skin never recovered and looks like it permanently damaged. The skin around my eyes is now wrinkled and looks 10 years older than the rest of me.

1) I do have herpes and wonder if it caused the skin problems? Does anyone know?

2) Is there anything I can do to reverse the damage? Moisturizing only goes so far - I've tried many of them. Maybe I should go see a skin doctor?

Thanks for any answers anyone has. It's a real bummer.

No, didn't have health insurance at the time. Now I do, so I guess that's an option.

But get this - I met a woman who had EXACTLY what I had. The skin around her eyes was red and inflamed. She told me she went to several different doctors and they couldn't tell what it was. I mentioned my experience and told her that lysine seemed to help. Not sure if I helped her or not, but there's a reason I don't have much faith in the medical establishment.

But it's starting all over again, so I should try to find a specialist who actually knows something about it. I think the herpes link might hold some clues.
