Okay all you breastfeeding pros. I need
some advice. I want to try reintroducing
the breast to Brina. She's still been
doing night feeds but my milk supply is
seriously low. I am now at a job where I
will be able to almost breastfeed
exclusively. If my milk supply is up
enough I may even be able to pump for the
feed while I am at work. I'm working at a
daycare right in town part time and I also
get a two hour lunch. Work is literally
like a minute away from my house. Does
anyone have any suggestions. I just
started this today. I let her nurse on
both sides for about ten minutes. How long
does it normally take for your supply to
build back up? Any advice is appreciated.

I stopped about 3 weeks ago.
Nya was where if my boob stopped
milking...she'd get MAD! She wouldn't want
to wait a few mins until another duct let
down.
She'd unlatch and scream.
I would suggest trying some Fenugreek.
It's a supplement that increases milk
supply.
And you need to take in no less than 64oz
water a day. The more water, the more
milk.
I wish I could help more...i really miss
it.

Nurse. NURSE NURSE. The best way to build
up your supply is to NURSE! Pumping can help,
but is not a replacement for nursing.
Fenugreek can help. But you don't need it.
Besides, you don't want to be smelling
like licorice!
Breasts have this really great system all
worked out. The more you nurse, the more
supply gets built up. It is a supply and
demand situation. Which is why, after a
day or two of not nursing as much, you
start to lose your supply. It also goes
the other way.
In about 1-2 days of more demand on your
breast, you'll be making more milk.

Thanks guys! I was so happy when my
husband said I could start working at the
daycare again. I am mainly going to be
working 2-6 in the afternoon so hopefully
we will be able to get back full throttle.
When I was nursing I had tons of milk so
hopefully that will happen once again.

I agree with the fenugreek bumping up
supply -- 3 pills 3 times a day. You have
to take enough so that you smell like
maple syrup, if you don't smell like
syrup, you aren't taking enough. Usually,
a week of that helps me. I can't take it
long term. The other side effect is it
gives you some nasty gas (not painful,
just stinky, but DH and I can't live with
it long term!).
Drinking water and eating oatmeal (old
fashioned oats) can help. I get the best
result from the fenugreek though, that and
nurse, nurse, nurse as often as possible.
It's also normal for your supply to be
lower in the evening (mine always is) and
higher in the morning.

Sarah
I felt so bad after she was born due to my
massive blood loss and the pneumonia I had
the week after that I wasn't able to hold
out to nurse her for very long. I would
get very weak. My husband started feeding
her bottles about every other feed when
she was about a week old. My supply just
slowly started going down. Then, when she
was four weeks old I went to work full
time and I only had time to nurse at
night. Now that I'm just working about
four hours a day I want to give it another
go. Plus, I feel loads better now.
Hopefully it will work out better.

It's going pretty good Sarah. My supply
has increased but I'm just not sure how
much. She's actually been satisfied with
just the breast a few times now. Last
night was tough though. I decided to tough
it out and just do breast. She was up
every couple of hours just wanting to
suck. I'm sure she was a little hungry
though. Breastmilk metabolizes a lot
faster than formula. This morning she
pretty much constantly breastfed from
about 9 until 10:30 or 11. She had her
cereal in between there somewhere. It's
okay though. I know it will get better. I
need to invest in a better pump. I can't
seem to get mine to work and I would like
to pump for them to feed her with while I
am at the daycare. She goes there as well
btw-only 2 or 3 days a week though.
