i recently wrote about how i had found a
hard, painless, mobile lump in the upper
outer quad of my left breast. i went today
and had a mammogram and an ultrasound. the
lady that preformed the ultrasound on me
said that it was "a cluster of 3 very
small ones and one 2cm". after all was
said and done, the doctor came in and said
that i could have a biopsy if it concerned
me but that being how extremly rare it
would be for a woman my age to have breast
cancer (im 27), he would advise to just
wait and see. im relieved of course to
have a professional tell me he thinks it
to be nothing of concern. however, what
could it be? he never told me even though
i asked. he just went on and on about how
unlikely it would be at my age to be
cancer and made small talk. should i still
be concerned? i guess ill just wait and
see if anything changes.
I would do what the doctors say and just
wait for awhile. Keep monitoring it, doing
self exams...note changes and make another
appointment if you're getting freaked out
again. If you go in again after any
possible changes, they might advise a
biopsy.
I'm glad you got the opinion of a doctor
though. Keep us posted!

Did they mention the possibility of
fibrocystic breast disease?
Its very common, and causes lumpy
breasts,
Fibrocystic breasts are characterized by
lumpiness and usually discomfort in one or
both breasts. The condition is very common
and benign, meaning that fibrocystic
breasts are not malignant (cancerous).
Fibrocystic breast disease (FBD), now
referred to as fibrocystic changes or
fibrocystic breast condition, is the most
common cause of "lumpy breasts" in women
and affects more than 60% of women. The
condition primarily affects women between
the ages of 30 and 50 and tends to become
less of a problem after menopause.
The diagnosis of fibrocystic breasts is
complicated by the fact that the condition
can vary widely in its severity. In some
women, the symptoms of fibrocystic breast
condition can be very mild with minimal
breast tenderness or pain. The symptoms
can also be limited in time, usually
occurring only premenstrually. It may not
even be possible to feel any lumps when
the breasts are examined by the woman
herself or by her doctor. In other women
with fibrocystic breasts, the pain and
tenderness are constant, and many lumpy or
nodular areas can be felt throughout both
breasts.
Do you like your Dr.?
Its always a good idea to get a second
opinion, if you have any doubt about what
they are telling you!
good luck!!

Breast cancer CAN strike at any age or
with either gender. If the doctor is not
100% certain that it is NOT cancer then I
personally would proceed to get a biopsy
(simple procedure) and ease your mind.
Your decision.
Early detection is always best. If it was
something bad wouldn't you want to catch
it early and begin treatment right away or
wait until it has spread?
In my late 20's I had a breast lump the
size of a quarter which started deep down
and moved right under my nipple. First
thing they did after the mammogram was to
try to aspirate the lump thinking it was a
cyst...no fluid, it was a solid mass, so I
had an out patient procedure to remove the
lump (you have to look very hard to see
where they cut...along the edge of the
nipple...perfectly hidden)...I was told
that the symptoms and how the lump moved
and that it was solid they could not be
100% sure if benign or cancer. Turned out
to be a benign tumor.
I do hope all turns out well for you.

I agree with zigemyster...anytime a doctor
even mentions/offers a biopsy, the level
of concern must be higher than a birads 2
(benign lesion). The doctor should be
saying "yes you are getting a biopsy"...
"no you don't need a biopsy at all"...or
"we will see you in 6 months for a follow
up". Not "we can do a biopsy if this
concerns YOU". They should be able to
give you a specific guideline of what to
do next based on what they see, atleast
that's how the radiologists at my hospital
work. I would be weary of this. Do YOU
know whether or not you should be
concerned about a simple cyst? The average
public doesn't and that's where they need
the professional to give their opinions.
Biopsies are simple procedures but again
very uneccessary at times. Where did you
have the imaging done? Private clinic?
hospital?
Also..a cluster of 3 very small what?
cysts? were they simple or complex? or
were they fibroadenomas or solids? This
makes a very big difference in your follow
up. Also a 2 cm lesion is not huge...but
it's a good sized lesion esp if it was
solid. But in your case the doctor doesnt
sound really concerned. On ultrasound you
need to watch out for any solids, complex
cysts or cysts with septations. We follow
these up within 6 months time, and even
mm's of change warrants a biopsy or fine
needly aspiration. As well as any lesion
that shadows, or that is shaped taller
than wide. Malignancies tend to grow with
the natural breast tissue in the early
stages.
Breast cancer can happen at your age..even
though it isn't as likely. Ive seen women
of 33 with widespread end-stage breast
cancer and sometimes it's the health care
professional that could have made all the
difference. Please see a copy of your
detailed ultrasound and mammo reports and
