risk from blood and shampoo Posted: 06-07-08 16:39pm
Recently a person who is HIV+ visited us.
One day while using the bathroom I noticed
that there was a redish pink jelly like
substance on a tissue near a shampoo
bottle.
Part of it was shampoo. I touched it with
my finger to smell it and see what it was.
I did not give it much thought, then I
washed my hands and proceeded to take a
bath from the same shampoo bottle.
Later on I saw that my friend had a cut on
his hand. Then it came to my mind that
that redish pink substance could have been
blood on shampoo. This incident has left
me very worried and uneasy.
Two things that I can tell for sure are:
1. My friend used the bathroom nearly an
hour ago. So that substance would have
been lying there on the tissue paper for
nearly an hour.
2. I just smelled it. But I also touched
it with my fingers. I did not have any
visible cuts on my fingers at the time I
touched that substance.
Also, I'm worried because I used shampoo
from the same bottle. I also used a
facewash bottle that my friend may have
used nearly an hour ago, and he was
bleading from his hand.
Please advice me as to what should I do ?

First thing, stop being worried.
Second thing, thanks for taking care of a
fellow human being. Having a visit with a
HIV+ person. That is awesome. Never stop
your compassion.
You must always remember that HIV dies 30
seconds to a minute after it hits the air.
The virus would never thrive in shampoo.
If there was no way for HIV to enter your
body, it did not enter your body.
It is OK to use the same shampoo as a HIV+
person. The virus from the blood would
not be in the shampoo. Do you
understand?
