Was your father suffering from pancreatic
adenocarcinoma?
Did he have a chronic inflammation of the
pancreas?

pancreatic cancer Posted: 05-25-08 00:49am
My mother died from pancreatic cancer and
any doctor I have ever talked to says it
is a cancer that does not usually run in
families.

It depends what was the cause of
pancreatic cancer.
New studies have shown that pancreatic
cancer can run in families.
First, there is a chronic pancreatitis
(inflammation of the pancreas starting at
an early age) that is hereditary (runs in
families) and can be a risk factor for
pancreatic cancer.
Also, people with two or more cases of
pancreatic cancer in their family (on the
same side), but no recognised gene faults,
may have 'familial pancreatic cancer
syndrome'. This means they have a higher
risk of getting pancreatic cancer than the
general population.
