It's also important to remember that
everyone's pregnancy is completely
different and what may be a good amount of
weight to gain for one person may not be
for another. Some people can healthily
gain 40 pounds, while others probably
shouldn't be gaining that much. Just stick
to your doctors advice, because he or she
will be sure to let you know if they think
your not gaining enough or too much

Actually...I do eat healthy...but...I eat
a lot...and have already gained 20 lbs.
Yeah..so..I'm trying to cut back on the
extra food I eat. But I'm hungry all the
time.

you can't possibly be eating healthy if
you've already gained 20 pounds. the
recommended weight gain for the first
trimester is 3-4 pounds.

20 lbs! Slow down. That is an entire
pregnancy's worth of weight.
Your body only needs an extra 300 calories
per day to maintain a healthy pregnancy.
Stop drinking gatorade. That stuff is the
same as soda pop and is not
healthy. Drink water. No calories
and is designed to be exactly what you
need. You don't need electrolites unless
you are running a marathon or doing some
heavy lifting.
For every pound you've gained, you've
eaten 3500 calories - in addition to
whatever calories your body needs to
maintain it's healthy weight (depending on
how active you are, that could be anywhere
from 1500-2500). That is 70,000 extra
calories you've eaten. That is not healthy
eating.
Drink water. Chew gum. Don't turn to food
for comfort. Get a hobby. Go for a walk.
Take a swim.

A good way to curve hunger is to eat five
or six smaller meals instead of three big
meals. And always keep something healthy
on-hand to snack on, like sliced fruit or
carrot sticks or maybe some nuts. Stay
away from greasy foods and excess salt,
and remember to drink lots of water.
A lot of your weight gain is probably
water, since you're having bloating
problems. As your pregnancy progresses and
your bloating goes away, your weight gain
should level out. But remember to avoid
the foods that make you bloat and some
light exercise might also help keep things
in check.
My last pregnancy I ate orange slices like
crazy! They made a great healthy snack,
and they don't have a lot of calories.
Baby carrots are another great snack, and
maybe some kiwi or strawberries.

Yeah, I do eat healthy, I just get hungry
all the time. and I'm bloated. I'm a tall
girl, so I don't know exactly what my
weight gain should be, but I actually lost
some weight around 8 weeks because I had
such terrible morning sickness.

A normal weight gain for an entire
pregnancy is anywhere from 15-30 pounds
total. Gaining 20 in the first trimester
is pretty excessive. Like I said, it
probably has a lot to do with your
bloating. Water weighs quite a bit, you
know!
As far as feeling hungry all the time, try
to eat fruit or veggies instead of heavier
foods. And splitting your meals into 5 or
6 smaller ones instead of 3 bigger ones
will shorten the time you have between
eating and might help keep your appetite
in check.
Seriously, orange slices saved my life
during my last pregnancy. Apples are great
too, and grapes. Carrot slices, some fresh
kiwi or strawberries, and peaches.
Watermelon is awesome too and in season!

..but everyone's pregnancy is different.
thats the recommended weight to gain in
pregnancy,
some 15-35lbs is whats recommended but
some do go over what the "recommended
weight gain" is.
Im not 100% sure, but at my first
trimester, i had gained...i think 10lbs, i
was tiny before i got pregnant, i only
weighed 105lbs.
But remember, everyone's body mass is
different, so what they gain could be fine
for their height and weight.
My family doctor told me when his sister
had her first child she gained 40lbs. some
was baby, amniotic fluid, the rest was
her, and her baby ws healthy as ever and
so was she, she just gained more weight
than what was "recommended".
Amethyst, talk to your doctor and ask him
or her if this is an ok amount of weight
for you to have gained, he or she may just
say cut down of sweets if your eating a
little too many.
I dont think you need to be drinking
gatorade...
although it can help morning sickness for
some, sometimes water comes up with
morning sickness and women can't keep much
down and they can get what's called:
hyperemesis where you get morning sickness
all the time. Gatorade had the main amount
of carbohydrates that we need, and the
proper amount of sodium that we need to
help our bodies absorb it.
Yes, drinking water is important, but
Gaorade has a few more things in it that
our bodies need, but Gatorade should not
replace water all together.
So, you can drink Gatorade, but dont use
this drink as a replacement for water.

Are you saying you've gained 20 lbs in 4
weeks then? That is impossible.

Gatorade is a sports drink. Unless you're
pushing your body very hard, you don't
need it. Water is much healthier for you.

Bloating and water retention cannot be
more than 10lbs of weight. The rest is
eating far too much. Healthy eating
is not going to create a 20 lb weight gain
- ever. No one ever gained 20 pounds in
11+ weeks eating snow peas and carrots.
They got that way eating crap foods with
no nutritional value.

..Like i said, you should not replace
water for Gatorade, drinking it sometimes
is ok, but you should still drink water.
Gatorade has MORE things in it that our
body needs which actually makes it
healthier for you.
Water has nothing but 1% of sodium.
Gatorade has the proper amount of sodium
in it that our bodies need.
She shouldnt drink Gatorade only, but its
ok for her to drink as long as its not all
the time.

Our bodies get plenty of sodium from the
foods we eat. Eating a balanced diet with
water will provide all the sodium we need
for our daily intake.
Excess sodium causes bloating. It is
aggravating her problem, not helping it.

She'll most likely burn off some of the
weight she's gained now, thats what most
women have said, they gained alot in the
beginning of the trimester, then lost most
of it.
She's walking with a baby that weighs now
about 0.25ounces(7grams),
in an AVERAGE pregnancy, weight gain is
distributed to the following:
baby 6-8lbs,
placenta 1-2 lbs,
an increased blood volume 3-4lbs,
encreased fluid volume 2-3lbs,
amniotic fluid 2lbs,
enlarged uterus 2lbs,
enlarged breast 1-2lbs
So as she goes along with her pregnancy,
she'll have all that weight to carry, and
will most likely burn off the extra weight
she's carrying around.

If she keeps eating the way she is, she
will have gained anough weight for 2-3
pregnancies. Adding the highest weight of
each of the above, still only has a gain
of 23lbs. As you said some gain more
because every pregnancy is different but
20 lbs is far too much for her first
trimester. She should gain the weight
gradually, not all at once.

In a perfect world, Krystine, that might
work. Here in the real world, when you
gain 20 lbs in a short amount of time, you
are asking for major health issues.
Are you aware of the health implications
of weight on a pregnancy?

Gestational diabetes and preeclampsia
(pregnancy-induced high blood pressure)
are two major risks she's running with
gaining this much weight this fast. If it
continues and she can't get it under
control, her and her baby will be at risk.

yes i am.
and if your thinking that i live inside my
head in some fairy tale, im not!
im just saying that yes she may have
gained this much, but could indeed lose
some of it if she's walking and what not.
some healthy foods have ALOT of calories
in them too. So she could be eating
healthy, just some of the foods have high
calories in them.
