does not knowing the rule about being at
school pregnant push teens who are
pregnant to drop out? Did you drop out
because you were unsure of this? Because
you got a job instead? Or because it was
to hard for you?

Why would someone drop out if they didn't
know the rule? Why wouldn't they just ask
first?

its not talked about in school as far as i
kno.
but some end up dropping out regardless of
finding out or not.
sure the obvious thing to do would be ask,
but that could lead to more fuss and what
not, so to make it easier do they just
drop out?
do you kno the rule on pregnancy and
schooling?
[thought of it for my project in working

I didnt know there was a rule on pregnancy
and going to school, Im not sure where you
are from but I live in Maryland in the
United States and they cant say anything
to you about being pregnant and going to
school, at least not in public schools.
And if you are due during the school year
your doctor can write a note to excuse you
from school and you could just do your
work at home, get it all before you had
the baby.

what about catholic schools. im in canada.
But what my question really is about is,
was it talked about in your school, did
teens already kno they could still goto
school, i mean i dont think just because
your pregnant you shouldnt be allowed to
go to school, you have every right just as
the person beside you who isnt going to
school pregnant. but if its not talked
about, do teens feel they should just drop
out to avoid confusion and what not

Well I never went to a catholic school so
I wouldnt know, but as for public schools
it was not talked about because there was
not a rule against it. I could be totally
wrong but I think that the people who drop
out when they are pregnant dont drop out
because they are pregnant, I think that
they drop out because maybe they think
that they dont need school and some have
everything figured out (im talking very
young teen moms)....

ys i agree with that too, i mean it in a
way makes sense because their now out
finding a job to support the baby their
having and themselves, but i was just
curious because if its not talked about,
do they feel they should drop out anyways.

different schools have different rules
about pregnancy
I know at my current school if a girl is
pregnant she is allowed to continue school
normally however she is not allowed to
wear the school uniform as they don't want
the public associating the school with
teenage pregnancy
however that being said i'm sure a lot of
girls drop out becuase of the stress and
the time and the illness that comes with
pregnancy, not because of social reasons
or what they think will be expected of
them.
*edit* my school is catholic

I'm in Canada, I went to a public school,
and we had quite a few pregnant girls
(like maybe 10 in our school of 1800, but
they stuck out so you remembered them ) and they all
stayed in school while showing, and the
two who gave birth came back as soon as
they were ready. As far as I know, it's
illegal to kick you out of a public
school. A private school, or catholic
school may be different. The biggest
all-girls catholic school from my area has
pregnancy kilts or something, so they
obviously don't kick you out. I'm pretty
sure no one would drop out because they
didn't know. That sounds pretty
ridiculous, or just used as an excuse to
drop out. If you want to find out, you
need to ask. Just because it's not talked
about doesn't mean you should take it to
mean you need to drop out, that's when
education is most needed.

Yeah here in the US, Arizona at least, its
illegal to force/kick out a pregnant teen.
The catch is its hard to stay under the
absence rate & they can drop you from
classes based on that.
I don't know about Canada, or catholics
schools either, however.
Do you have the opportunity to attend
online school? I think its really best for
pregnant teens.
I'm in my junior year. I have 3 months of
this year left that I'm just going to
finish, then go to online next year to
finish up. I also go to a technical school
designed for HS students part time and
will stay there. I lucked out because
about this time next year I'll have a full
career :] its so ideal for pregnant teens,
there are many in my area of study.

i just think its a little odd that its not
a talked about subject.
I mean sure it may not happen as often as
bullying or drug related situtations in
schools, but it can happen and clearly
does. Just because the school cant kick
you out or whatever, doesnt mean the
topic/situation should be avoided.

Where are you thinking it should be talked
about? During the school day, I mean.

well theres assembly meetings that they
throw for bullying, drugs and no
tollerance about prayjurising on like the
first or second day of school, why not
bring up teen pregnancy on that same day?

Again at my school it was breifly touched
on during sex education but as a catholic
school it was kind of a "NO BAD" type
thing
also in the school planner that has all
the details about absenses and uniform and
maps of the school and forms for being
allowed to leave school when you don't
have classes etc it touches on the
procedure if you're pregnant.
I think different school's have different
methods but no matter which school I'm
sure they'd send you to councellors and
meetings with teachers in authoritive
positions if you were to outline exactly
what would happen.

well its good your school has that or
talks a little about it...but not every
school has or does that..i mean when i
started collecting info for my research
project on teen pregnancy, i asked my
teacher about what the rule is about going
to school pregnant, and my teacher didnt
even kno!
My school doesnt have any of that. and its
a catholic school as well. i mean teachers
dont even kno what the policy is for
crying out loud! lol

That's kind of pathetic that the teachers
don't know.

thats what i thought too.
i thought it was something they should
kno..
thats another reason why i posted this..i
mean if teachers dont even kno, what can
happen or come of someone being pregnant?
if they find out im pregnant.
personally i dont think its their business
to kno, because its personal, not an
illness and if they try kicking me out
i'll stand up and say something because
its discrimination towards me for being
pregnant and going to school. im only
going to school for one semester to get 3
credits i need, then im done! thats
violating my rights for trying to kick me
out [if they do try that]

o for sure! just because im pregnant does
not mean im incapable of finishing my
schooling and getting my diploma. i mean
ive been going and showing up everyday and
they dont kno im pregnant now, whats so
different when and if they find out.
its one semester i have to do and i'll
never be there again.
