Sciatica and IUD in wrong place? Posted: 02-29-08 23:36pm
Hi!new here.
I have had sciatica for the past eight
months. I fell in May of 2007 right on my
tailbone on a skating ring. Just had some
bruises and tail bone pain. Went to see
several doctors who said it was just tail
bone pain and I'll be fine. Waking helped
so I was walking every day. Then I
decided to get an IUD. Soon back pain got
very bad. I went hiking for 2 to three
hrs and several days later, pain was going
down both legs along with tingling and
numbness. I had an MRI which found a
minor buldge around l4/L5. So my
orthopedic surgeon sent me to Physiatrist
who did a nerve conduction test. She said
I don't have a pinched nerve. She said it
was my SI joint. So I got two steroid
shots which didn't work. Finally my
doctor wanted me to re-check my IUD. My
GYN believed it was my back and he said it
can't be the IUD. SO I went with the pain
for another couple more months. Finally I
had on/off bleeding and I demanded an
ultrasound. My IUD was in the wrong
place! They took it out. My back felt
somewhat better but my left leg and hip
pain was still there. My friend suggested
Acupuncture. First session went well.
Second session, not so good.
Acupuncturist did some stim after the
needles which caused so much pain and my
left side was numb after it. This brought
back my sciatica just like after the hike.
I also had a message on my left side
several months ago which started this type
of pain too. So my physiatrist has told
me to deal with the IUD issue and make
sure that didn't cause more damage. I had
a pelvic MRI which showed a cut or polyp.
I need more testing. I've changed my GYN
and waiting for an appt with my new GYN.
Could someone please tell me if they have
sciatica due to IUD in the wrong place.

Hello Mysterbyhealth,
Welcome to this forum.
I'm disappointed the ladies have not
responded to your post. SOOOoo here goes
as a male.
First, I am not a doctor. However, I will
give you my thoughts. -
I would highly recommend that you stop
using the IUD. AND, you won't like this,
however, at this time it would seem
intercourse would not be advised not
knowing if the IUD has caused any damage
or not.
I'm glad you have changed your GYN.
Now seek advice from a neurologist/spinal
surgeon. In fact, seek the medical advice
from the BEST spinal doctors (with MD in
back of their names) that you can find.
I wish you the best.

iud, sciatica Posted: 04-21-08 18:49pm
Hello.. I have been having the same kind
of pain, I did injure my Sciatica a few
years back and that pain kind of will come
and go.. However Dec 11th of 2007 I had
the IUD inserted after being on the depo
and everything was fine but when I did get
my period on Feb 12, 2008 I bleeed until
like April 04 , 2008way to long went to
gyn they did all sorts of test said I had
a enlarged uterous but my bleeding was so
heavy and painful.. well It stopped for
what like 2 weeks and now got my period
back again on April 18th.. and let me tell
you I am in so much pain my lower back
like on my right side like my insides feel
like they are all scrunched and if im
sitting and go to get up my right leg and
hip just dont want to go pains shoot and
i'm really wondering is it from the i.u.d
or is it my sciatica again but this sort
of pain and discomfort i think is much
more severe then the pain i felt back in
the day from just my sciactica.. sometimes
it just takes my breath away.

IUD and Back Pain Posted: 06-18-08 18:08pm
Hilnew, do you think your back injuries in
L5 were due to your IUD? Because I got my
IUD 4 1/2 years ago, and ever since, I've
had more and more health problems. I'm
very healthy, play lots of sports, I'm 29
years old and have a bulging disk in my L5
in my lower back, which means lots of back
pain and no more sports. I feel like it
has something to do with the IUD, but I
always thought it was a weird hunch. I
just got it removed, so I'm going to see
if I start feeling better.
