Severe calf and inner thigh pain Posted: 06-11-08 18:28pm
I recently finished a spring semester at
college and have had the last 3-4 offs
which i have been mostly using to play
video watch tv with the occasion hour long
dog walk every couple days but mostly a
lot of inactivity. I noticed a sharp pain
at the bottom of my right calf and didn't
think much of it, it only hurt when i used
it and it was no worse than a sore muscle.
I then took my dog for another hour long
walk and afterwards i went for about a 5-6
mile bike ride and it was still bothering
me but even the next day it didn't feel
like the soreness was from the exercising
but something else (this was all last
friday). Then on Monday i went to a summer
class on campus and had to walk all the
way across campus and back and it felt
rough especially because my class is on
the third floor. Monday night the pain in
my calf was about a 5 and it was hard to
fall asleep. Tuesday morning it really
hurt, it was incredibly stiff and i was
limping around the house with a pain
level of about 8 as i would cringe with
each step. It felt like a severely sore
calf muscle aching when i was at rest and
burning when i walked but my other leg is
completely fine no soreness whatsoever. I
took 3 ibuproferins 3 different times
yesterday for a total of 9 200mg pills and
iced it 30 mins on then got in the shower
and let hot water soak all over my leg
because the muscle tension/pain spread
through the back of my knee to my inner
right thigh. I repeated this cold/hot
treatment 4 times yesterday and it is
still very tight and sore and unable to
hold all my weight on it sufficiently i am
having a very hard time just walking
around my house. I have begun to take
ibuproferins and do the cold/hot treatment
again today but it is still very painful
and hard to walk. I played sports from age
8 until 18 so I know what a normal sore
muscle is like and and how to take care of
it but this is beyond any i have dealt
with before. The main thing i am worried
about is the long period of inactivity
before this very tense muscle feeling
arose and because it is only in one leg i
dont think it has as much to do with the
exercising as some other cause.

The best advice I can give you is to go to
your doctor. As you stated, it obviously
isn't anything normal, you have no reason
to be getting them since the most
strenuous activity you do is walking or
going up stairs for the moment. Go to one
and find out rather then regretting it
down the line and having some sort of
permanent damage.
Let us know what the doctor says
afterwards, then perhaps we can help you.
