Hi,
I get sick frequently and i start stressing because i'm scared it's going to lead to something serious. I'm constantly worring about my heart especially when its just a little faster then normal. Every ache and pain i get its like so many things come to my mind about what is could be. I find my self constantly worrying about what if this or what if that happens to me. And just because my grandma or grandpa has an illness im always thinking i'm going to get it too, for ex. diabetes, heart attack or heart problems. I take vitamins every morning and when i feel like i don't feel right i go straight to the fridge for fruits and veggies.
but the man thing that im tryin to find out is do u think all this worrying and stress about my health all the time weakens my immune system ???

Sure sounds like you have an obcessive anxiety disorder with you health. Join the crowd. You by no means are along. Ever since my close to death from Asthma and on the vent with double pneumoneia two December's ago, I am the same way. Everytime I cough up something other then white or my chest feels thight, I am on the phone to my pulomologist. And yes, this stress with takes its toll on your bodies functions. I had to lern how to rexlas my body by doing yoga at least once a day( I try my best to do once in the morning and once before bed. Relax you mind down to your toes. Think about how each area is relaxing as you move down with you mind. It really does help. Some low soothing music in the background or with headphones is the ultimate speration for stress to relaxation. This has been praticed for decades and is know to work wonders. You can feel the worry leave your body. Think of yourself side by a stream with the sound of the rippling water. There are so many things you can add to the practice of yoga. Please try it and let me know how it goes.

Hi Emma_Lee

I know exactly how you feel. I have been feeling like that for a loooong time now...that is up untill Wednesday when a dx of Marfans was finally confirmed, once and for all. It has allowed me to breath a bit easier as all these pains, aches, problems and whot-not finally has a reason and it's not just in my head.

Anxiety can cause a lot of ache's and pains and anxiety over those pains in turn can cause even more. When you get anxious, you contract all your muscles, causing them to go into spasmism, which in turn causes other muscles to contract and so forth. The best is like what MsCarrie says...relaxation.

What you can try, is to make note of when things happen. You might find that a lot of times the ache and/or pain passes after a while, never to return (Sometimes, you might even feel silly for having worried about it in the first place). If you do find a definate pattern, then you can start thinking of paying a visit to the GP...just to be safe...as at that point there more than likely isn't anything to be really concerned about.

I am very carefull of, and I have MsCarrie to keep me on my toes about it too Wink, getting too overly excited about my heart problems. I get a lot of chest ache's and pains but that is not to say it's the cardio-condition. A lot of it is due to Anxiety and most of it is due to the fact that my rib-cage is not held together like it should...but you wouldn't need to worry about that part Wink.

I hope this doesn't sound mean or anything and that you get my meaning, but..there is an old saying of "Where there is smoke, there is fire". So, unless you can smell smoke, you are going to waste your life, standing with a bucket in your hand in front of a forest that is not burning...while in the meantime, you could have been enjoying the river that is flowing through it.

A lit match on it's own is not dangerous and a puddle of fuel on it's own, is not dangerous either, in fact they can be very usefull when combined with other things. Now if you were to touch the lit match, you might burn your self a bit but still no real harm done. Combine the match and fuel, however and it is a totally different story.

I hope you understand what I am trying to say... I want you to be calm and confident that you don't need to worry about what MIGHT happen.

In my condition, there is a "stacking up" of problems. Most of the complications in my life, is complications that any other human could have without any problems or worries. What makes it dangerous to me, is that there is the combinations...like the lit match and the fuel.

You do need to take care of your health and eating fruit is very good, but stressing over things that is not happening, can give rise to other problems. Leave that in the hands of doctors untill they say "Ma'm...we have a problem".

I hope you were able to understand some of my babblings Wink It's just that I really want to help you find peace of mind, as I know all too well how difficult a situation like this is.

* HUGS *

Emma Lee,
It definetly isn't fixable over night. I have had this problem for the last year or so and it takes time to slowly overcome these things. It is hard when your fear is based on some actual medical problems that are reoccuring. I have been having fainting spells that the doctors haven't been able to explain, so they happen randomly so it has been my trigger for all of my anxiety about my health. But I will start to make some progress and get better and then I will have an actual attack that will throw me back many steps. But you can do it. You just have to realize that it is mind over matter and you have the power to make yourself better and relax it just takes some practice.

It really sounds like you have a problem with anxiety and I know exactly what you are going through. The thing that I was told is that people with anxiety are more aware of their bodies than the "average Joe" so anytime we have any little thing that is off it affects us ten times more cause then we panic. You just have to tell yourself everything is going to be okay it is just me overreacting to the normal way my body acts. It is really good that you are eating fruits and veggies keep that up but please try not to worry and calm down cause life is too short go out and live it!

Jennikay...you are quite right...

Try being BP with OCD & Anxiety along with Marfans... Razz Where usually it's a 80% chance it's just over-reacting...with Marfans, you can't be too carefull...more like 50%. At least I know that certain chest pains is more related to Anxiety rather than the Mitral valve prolapse...

Hello. Your symptoms sound very familiar.
I think a lot of people wouldn't be here if they didn't worry about their health.
I've come looking for ideas and support to get through some of my problems.

Hope you find some help too.
