Smell/taste Disorder Posted: 08-21-05 13:53pm
For over a month now this condition has
gotten progressively worse. The tastes
and smells of foods/beverages that I once
loved now are repulsive to me, to the
point of avoiding them completely. Same
holds true for odors that once didn't
bother me - bath products, toothpaste,
soaps/cleaners, flower scents, to name a
few - in that now I have to hold my nose
to stop from gagging.
I'm not on any medication. I've had two
antibiotics which did no good (doctor
thought it might be severe, embedded sinus
infection, though I had no symptoms of
such). I had a ct scan to rule out brain
tumor, which showed no abnormalities.
And this is not a loss of sense of smell
or taste, which many people assume.
Rather it's a distortion of smell and
taste (dysosmia/dysgeusia respectively).
If anyone has experieced this before and
has any other suggestions, i'd surely
appreciate hearing of them. I'm resorting
to eating very bland food, simple carbs
(which i'd been trying to avoid prior),
and have had to cross off nearly every
fruit and vegetable from my list of
"approved" foods.
