are you due this week?

It is best to go naturally because inductions have a higher c-section rate.

Good luck!

First time mothers very rarely go into labor before their due date.

Be careful with your induction. I would highly suggest NOT letting them break your water until it's obvious that labor is underway. If they break your water and you fail to progress quickly enough, you'll end up with a c-section.

Inductions really aren't fun, I wouldn't want another one. Just try & be patient, your baby will come when she's ready.

Actually, no. Your doctor has no control over your body or your mind. He can't force you to be induced. What are they going to do, strap you down and force the IV in your vein?

You have a choice. You always have a choice.

Laura is right, Kira. He doesn't tell you how you will give birth, he offers his suggestions and his input. Induction is not necessary unless there is something wrong with the mother or the baby. You can go up to 2 weeks post dates (after due date).

Everyone is always in such a rush to get these babies out. They come out when they are ready.

Good luck with your induction.

If you want to be induced, that's fine. We're just trying to tell you that you don't have to do something just because your doctor says that's what's going to happen. You've said here that "well its nothing i can do if my dr says he's gonna do it then he's gonna do it". You have more power than that. If you want this to happen, fine, but you don't have to do this just because that's what your doctor wants. He works for YOU, not the other way around.

He mentioned it probably because every pregnant woman who is seen in his practice wants to have their baby right now. A lot of doctors also do it out of convenience to them. This way they have a time frame on when they have to work (deliver your baby) as opposed to having to get up at 3am on a Saturday morning to come into work.

Have the induction, but know that it is your choice.

Good Luck! I hope everything goes well!!

I know my doctor wouldn't let me go past 41wks, even though they said I could go 2 weeks either way of my EDD. I was induced only because I had pre-eclampsia, but if you and she are healthy, I wouldn't rush it.

this was true--for me anyway... I was induced and ended up having a c-section because i wasnt dialating any and my BP was up and down....Maybe you wont have to be induced...She will come and it will be all over before you know it..

There's no shame in admitting you want to be induced. I was induced at 40 weeks 1 day with my daughter, and this baby is due 12/28. I want to have him/her before 2008 ends for tax purposes, so you better believe I'll be asking about induction if the little stranger doesn't come by my due date.

If my due date wasn't so close to January though, I'd probably opt not to have an induction, just to see what my body does.

I was induced also, there was no medical reason. The Dr gave me the option and I took it. He said the baby hadn't grown anymore and was ready. So I went for it. To me it was the best thing ever. I was 2 cm when I went in. I got to the hospital at 6am and at 2:17 that day I had my dd natural. And now I'm glad I did get induced because she had a bowel movement. and I was induced a week before my due date.

Not growing anymore would be a medical reason for induction - especially if you weren't even due yet. I'm glad your induction worked for you.

I was meant to be induced because i was a week and a half overdue and they didn't want to placenta to start deteriating and they were fully booked up after that so it was kinda then or wait and perhaps have complications, thankfully i was dilated when i went in because i realy didn't want to be induced. I already have a strict birthplan for number two in my head which definatlydoesn't include an induction becuase when i went onto the postnatal ward there were 4 women in there who'd been induced and one of them was in labour for 3 days in alot of pain and progressing slowly and the other three had c sections
