Posted: 05-05-08 18:12pm

Hey girls! So i went to the dr. today and i have strep throat. Crying
or Very sad Im 8 wks preg today. They gave me amoxcillian(sp). What im worried about though is at 4 wks they put me on penncillian(sp) for a bacteria infection (i didnt know i even had it, they tested through my urine when we confirmed i was preg.). Is this to much med. to take in my first trimester??? I dont know much about strep...ive only had it 2 times! The pharmacy said it was a low dose of amoxi...but it still worries me! Should i take the med??? Or should i just wait for the strep to go away on its own?? Please help!!!! Its been one problem after the other! On top of that they are worried im not eating enough b/c ive been sick so when they weighed me today i lost 3 lbs in a week! I drink lots of liquids and juice. Ive been eating cheese crackers and soup too...do you think thats enough for baby??? Thanks soooo much girls!!!!!!

talk to your doctor about the medication you were perscribed and ask if its harmful to the baby, and if it is harmful ask if theres a medication you can take that wont harm the baby.
Try eating apple sauce and some soft fruits to keep your metabolism up, try a fruit salad, its soft on your throat.
OH! What about making a fruit smoothie and blueberries, raspberries, strawberries..all fruits that have antioxotains in them that are good for you and the baby.
Try to eat what you can, stay hydrated like your doing now, drink orange juice, its good for you too:)
But maybe give your doctor a call and ask him if the perscription is ok to take.

the only thing he said about it is that it was tested "possibly safe". And that i need to take it to clear the infection. Smoothie sounds really good! Thats a really good idea, ill have to make dh go to the store tonight lol.

I was put on amoxicillin during my first pregnancy to clear up a sinus infection and bladder infection. I was only a few weeks along, and my doctor said it was an antibiotic that was safe for pregnancy. I had no complications or bad affects from it, it cleared my infections up, and my daughter is perfectly healthy.

I would definitely take the medicine. It will clear up your illness and your baby should be just fine.

As far as your morning sickness, talk with your doctor about maybe putting you on medicine to help. If you're losing weight, they'll probably prescribe a medicine to help control your vomiting.

i think its our decision to take it or not now, but like Idony said, it wont go away on its own.
Are you able to keep some solid foods down now?
Here's a link on info about morning sickness i thought you might want to read it,
http://www.morningsicknesshelp.com/morning -sickness-relief.html

I remember when i had bad morning sickness it started right on christmas day, i had a hard time keeping water down, so i started taking my prenatal vitamin later on in the day, which helped me, i tried eating unsalted crackers before i got out of bed, if i wasn't keeping much down through out the day i would have some drie toast then try something else a little later, i ate alot of soup my fiancee's mom made me some cabbage soup that was really yummy! i ate smaller meals...Then it got better, i would get sick once in the morning or at night, and at first there were some things i couldnt eat for the first little bit.
I never went on medication for it, my doctors told me it would get easier and try eating as much as you can when you can.
They only put you on medication if they think severe enough, so try your best to eat healthy small meals to help you feel better.Smile

A lot of women lose weight in early pregnancy, it can be really normal for some people - especially with morning sickness. Why not ask your doctor to give you something for it? I'd think if they were that concerned, they'd have offered you some medication that can help with the MS.

TAKE THE ANTIBIOTIC! Sheesh. It doesn't do you or the baby any good not to. Why would your doctor prescribe something a pregnant woman couldn't take? That is silly! And your pharmacist knows you are pregnant, right? Well, they don't go handing over medication to pregnant women that will harm the fetus.

thanks for the advice girls! The only reason i was concerned about taking this med is b/c when i was 4 wks they put me on pennicillian. And the dr. never mentioned about putting me on anything to help with the m/s. I will have to give them a call and ask them about it.

There are a few different things they use for severe MS - especially if it is causing undesireable weight loss. Although, a very lot of women lose weight the first 3 months of pregnancy. If you are taking your vitamins and eating what you can, you'll be fine.
