Teen moms in real life

Aside from yourself, if you were a teenage parent... Do you in your real life, not online, or others your sought out, via myspace, or forums or play groups, etc...

Do you know any other teen moms?

I am a Mentor/Volunteer for JSF Mentoring Mothers in Real Life. Aside from the girls I meet thru the program, I only personally know one girl who was a teenage mom.

She got pregnant sophmore year of highschool and dropped out, had another child with the same man at 17-18.

Her boyfriend/childs father is a total deadbeat but she is the hardest working person ever and takes nothing for granted. She just got her GED this year (we are both 21) and I hope she finally sees how worthless brandon is.

However I was talking to a friend of mine whom lives in Lousiana and she said just statistcally most girls that dont have alot of money or education kind of end up that way, pregnant or on drugs by around 14 or so... (not juding you at all if you are from LA, I am simply stating what I was told by a LA native).

I am born and raised, from San Diego, California and yeah I guess there are probably teens who where in my school or what not whom got pregnant and secretlyhad an abortion. I just only know one who got pregnant, admitted to it and moved on.

I am simply curious about everyone else....

yes i know loads myself. three from the same year as me at school. two from my sisters year. i know quite a few through friends and through a group i go to. the youngest teen mum i know got pregnant at 14. she is 15 now and cant get many benefits to support herself as she is under 16 and she lives with her nan. her mum lives across the road, but there is more room at her nans for a baby.
the people in my year, one girl was pregnant while studying her GCSEs. we didnt know at the time. we only knew when she was heavily pregnant. her son is now 2

i think that would count. i dont know, there's loads of teenage mums in my area. its become acceptable when a young girl gets pregnant. its always been that way, but its been getting worse. bobbys mum got pregnant at 16 and her mum got pregnant at 17 with twins, but lost them

see thats just the thing, although in no way am i putting down your home, or anyones home or what not, but what makes it acceptable in some areas vs not acceptable in others. Even if not acceptable but expected? My friend from Louisiana said its just expected... however here. It would be insane... she would probably make papers or whatnot... or it would be gossiped about... I mean you go into Costco and see a young girl pregnant... I'll admit I'm even looking. I guess its just not accepted or expected here. I mean I got pregnant at 18 had my son at 19 and I was like OMG it was insane for me to be pregnant. My son will be 3 years old in 2 weeks and all my friends are just NOW having kiddos.

Jess, to be honest, I think economics play a large part, as well as the extent to which any given community is religious or not. You probably grew up in a fairly affluent neighborhood.

I'm from Louisiana.... and as sad as it is i'd say about 70% of teenage girls have children by the age of 18 and most had them younger than 16.
Whats worst is more than half are living off the state.
I wouldn't say that it's "expected" for a teen girl to have a baby but that thought comes to mind before them saying she dosen't.....

I was one of the older ones in my friends circle who got pregnant... I'm trying on my second now at 19 and their all on their 3rd and fourth.

There are 2 girls who I am friends with that I wish would really get their ****together but I have to say most of my friends who are teenage or were teenage mothers have done really good for themselves.

My sons sisters mom, who is now like my best frind she is 4 months younger than me... she has her own 4 bd. rm house, her own 08' galant, both her children want or need for anything, and she has her first at 14. She went back to school got her GED and picked up a trade....I'm happy to say thats the story for most of my friends who had their kids young.

It's really common here in New Orleans tho...

I was living in Tx. when I was pregnant for Casey and already I'm short so I look young but I did notice the snobby looks and the attitude change when they opened my chart and saw that I was only 16.

How do they afford large homes and expensive cars? Wouldn't your son's sister's mom be you?

No, it wouldn't be me.
My son has an older sister from another woman.
His dad'd other child... not mine.

She didn't become a statistic, thats how she has a large home and a nice car. She got up, got a job, and worked for hers. Went back to school and got her degree and even a trade.

Do I know another teenage mother (or one that was) heck yeah. My niece (15) just had a baby girl. But aside from that when I was a teen mom 1/2 or more of my graduation class was pregnant at the same time. And no I was not following a trend I was living in another state when I became pregnant and moved back with my mom when I found out how many was pregnant. That was 11 years ago this Oct.

Holy crap, everyone seems to know so many teenage moms. I don't know any personally, one girl I went to elementary with has one, but I haven't seen her in over 7 years. And we had 4/5 pregnant girls in my school in my final year. Note that we do have almost 2000 students, but yeah, we're sitting at less than 1%. It is looked down upon and it is talked about around here, but we still support those who choose to go ahead with it. I just can't imagine having half of your graduating class pregnant (RebelCats).

Yeah it was a shock when I found out as well. But the odd thing was it was not like the popular girl got pregnant and everyone followed suit. Most of them got pregnant at the same time. It was freaky. But like I said I lived out of state when I got pregnant. And also it was a small school. We had no where near 2000 kids.

when i was still in school i knew at least 2 other girls who were pregnant (they were in one of the same classes as me) there were rumars that 2 other girls from that same class were pregnant (i always would joke that i started a bad trend cause i got preg right before school started and all these girls got preg after lol) then i had seen probably about at lest 5 other girls in the school who where preg, then i knew one girl in that school who was already a mum then at my old school i knew 3 girls who were mums (they were sophmores/juniors) and back home (in wisconsin) i know of 2 girls that have babies (one is 16 and the other is 1Cool. also i went to a parenting class where there were a few teen parents the youngest i belive was 14

physically right now i dont have contact with any teens who are parents/pregnant other then myself, 3 of my neighbors were but they are all older now

Wow, so Dannzibelle both you and your sister are teen moms at the same time? Are you both at home? How do your parents feel about that? Why did you want to be a teen mom when you saw your sister go through it?

My sister is now 20 and married to her children's father and living in a home that they rent together so she doesn't live here. Well understandably our parents wern't happy about it but all of our pregnancies were unplanned and happened while we were on contraception (our family is very fertile incase you couldn't already tell!) so they couldn't be angry with us for being irresponsible and having unprotected sex. I never wanted to be a teen mum so i can't really answer that question but once i found myself pregnant i knew i had the strength to do it

..i dont see how they couldnt be angry, if you said people in your family are very fertile, wouldnt they push for protection? and wouldnt you always have protection cuz you are so fertile?
that doesnt make sense to me is all
