The Bradley Way Posted: 05-16-08 10:29am
Has anyone given birth using this method?
I am currently reading their book. It has
lots of great information in it and its
something that I am considering. Well I
should say the Bradley Way sounds like it
could work with what I want.
So has anyone done this or read this book
also? If so how did the birth end up
going? Do you recommend it? What the
problems and issues you came accross?

I didn't use the bradley method, but I've
heard nothing but AMAZING things about
it.
I birthed both of my daughters with no medical
intervention.
Know one thing, you CAN do it.

thanks for your post! So what method did
you use? Did you use your own? Did you
birth in a hospital or home? How did you
get your points across in the hospital?
What obsticles did you have to
overcome?(not related to birth)
Well I commend you for doing it with no
intervention. I really wish I could have
my baby at home, but some medical issues
that I have dont allow that. I was very
disappointed. But I am determined to still
have a birth thats as natural as can be.
Its tough you know.
Every woman I know tells me that Im crazy
or that I will want and need the drugs.
There is no support. Its surprising how
many people are blinded by the medical
feild in their dicisions. Only my mother
and hubby are supporting me in this. I
guess that should be all that matters. But
my in-laws, family, and friends are
shocked when I tell them my labor and
birth plans....either way. This is what my
hubby and I want for our baby.

First off, let me tell you that NOBODY
supported me when I was pregnant with my
1st.
They SWORE that as soon as I felt the
contractions, I would be BEGGING for
meds.
THey were shocked when I refused
everything.
No IV, no EPI, no episiotomy, NOTHING.
Many many people feel inferior to hospital
staff.
They feel like they HAVE to accept what
they offer.
YOU just have to know that they can't
FORCE you to do ANYTHING.
Have you talked to your Dr about your
plans?
BOTH of my Dr's doubted me. BOTH of them.
and tried to force induction on me. I
refused.
I didn't have a method, per say.
The BEST way for me to release the pain
was through my toes.
I kept my body like jello, and just
wriggled my feet & toes.
Moaning is a natural way to realease pain.
your body will moan automatically.
I did this for both labors.
If your hospital offers a labor tub, TAKE
IT!
It's been referred to as the
"aqua-dural".
My next birth will be either water, or at
home.
Both of my daughters had marconium(bowel
movement), so they had to be suctioned
immedietly.
You can pm me if you want any more info!!!

wow sounds like we may have similiar
stories. I have been already facing doubt
from all directions.
I havent gotten the chance to sit down
with my midwife about my wishes yet. But
she was very open to me using the tub so I
think she will be very good to work with.
On my next appointment I will share with
her my wish for no intervention.
I have alredy asked my mother in law if I
can labor in her home. She said yes. I was
sooo thankful. I dont have ins and I can
only go to the Indian hospital which is 20
minutes away from home in another city. Im
guessing my 1st will be a long hard labor
and I do not want to be sent home or in a
hospital longer than I have to. I can
avoid induction and c-section that way
too. She's really scared about me
accidently having the baby at home or
things going wrong. I hope she wont give
me too much grief when the moments
actually here,. Her home, my hubby's old
home, is very big and homey. Theres plenty
of rooms and space for me to roam around.
And we are going to purchase a small pool
for me in the backyard. I cannot wait for
this experieince. I have total faith in
myself and my baby. This is going to be a
huge experience. I keep telling my little
dude that we have to work together on this
so he can be born. hubby is supportive
100% too. He just wants me to be
comfortable.
Well enough of the novel. Didnt mean to
type your ear off, but like I said no one
shares my ideas and wishes. I feel I cant
talk to many women about this without
getting judged..lol

I'm with both you girls. This is my first
delivery and the closer it gets the more
nurveous I get. I really really want to
have a natural labor with no interferences
but I know i"m gonna have to dig deep down
and find that inner strength. I do have a
really high pain tolerance but I've also
never really experienced pain like this.
My husband and my mom will be in the
delivery room with me and are both really
supportive of me doing the natural labor
so hopefully that will help. What's the
Bradley Method? I think any method will
help come that point.

The Bradley way is a method of labor and
delivery. Its similiar to Lamaze, but
they are very very different. Its based on
a natural childbirth without medical
intervention or medications. The main
focus to me is relaxation. The book
teaches you to relax your entire body
during contractions. To let your unterus
contract and focus on getting your baby
out. You relax from your head to your toes
and focus on deep breathing from your
lower abdomen. You use your own mind to
focus on the contraction and get you
through it. The enviorment is quiet and
calm with your coach there by your side.
The book also has lessons for your coach
(husband). Your coach will help keep you
comfortable and make sure you are focusing
on relaxation and breathing correctly.
The book also teaches you excersises to do
before birth to strengthen your perinium
to avoid tearing and an episiotomy. It
also gives you daily excersises to get
your muscles strong and stretched for
delivery. Like squatting and pc muscles.
get the book and start reading it. Its
been soooo helpful for me and its easy to
tell my husband about. I am signed up for
Bradley classes in my city maybe you can
do that to. Look up "bradley classes" on
the web and choose the link. You can
search for an instructor in your state and
city.

My daughter I had natural and with my son
I had nubain(?) not like it helped much
but anyways I dont think the contractions
were all that bad I just didnt like the
crowning. Everyone swore I wouldnt be
able to do it and my dad had me laughing
through my contratractions what a father
eh.
Anything is possible just dont be ashamed
to using pain relief.
One complaint the nurses kept trying to
get me to have an epi-dural and I said no
a few times I guess they just dont
understand.

Update! Posted: 06-16-08 09:52am
Well we are attending our second class
tonight and I am looking forward to it. I
really like the teacher and think that
this is so going to pay off during labor
and birth.
I am taking these classes mainly to learn
how to deal with the pain and learn that I
can do this with my body and my baby. That
I dont require doctors and nurses to tell
me anything. With the Bradley classes I
think I will have a very spiritual birth.
The classes are very focused on the
husband or partner. I think I like that
the most. Daniel and I are learning more
about being a team and communicating...and
thats a plus in any relationship. The
focus is to teach the coach just as much
as the mother. That way he can support me
when I need support. Instead of me getting
talked into something I do not want by
doctors that "know best"
So there is the update. I am posting this
mainly to try to reach other women who may
share some of my views on natural
childbirth. Maybe I can help someone out
there.
