Hi. I recently had a root canal and was
prescribed clindamycin for infection in
the beginning of April. The month before
that I was constantly taking Ibuprofen(
and for one day a low dose of Vicodin) for
a tooth ache/migraine. I started noticing
a ringing in my ears in the beginning of
April( I guess it's tinnitus) and was
wondering if it is true that some
antibiotics can cause tinnitus ? If this
is true, what is the chance it will go
away after I finish the prescription? (The
reason I am still taking it is because I
was very inconsistent when I started it.)
I have about one day left of medicine.
It's starting to drive me crazy and hoping
it will go away.

Tinnitus is usually due to an ear
disorder. Prolonged exposure to noise is
the most common reason for tinnitus.
Certain medicines are ear-toxic and they
can also cause tinnitus. There is no data
that cindamycin and ibuprofen can cause
any ear damage. Vicodin can cause tinnitus
and hearing loss but you took it only once
so it is very unlikely that Vicodin caused
your tinnitus.
You may want to consult an ENT specialist
about your problem.
