TMD possible ?
Posted: 06-25-08 05:49am

Hi,
I've always had a jaw that clunks when i eat and makes weird noises, i never really noticed until 2 yrs ago when my partner pointed it out. This year a few times i have woken up to it being locked but with a little wiggle it was fixed, it would do this often but as the day progressed it got less and less until the next day when it would be fine.
So 16 days ago it locked and it has been like that ever since. i went to the doctor 3 times in 10 days with him prescribing antihistamines then antibiotics. Of course this did not work so he has reffered me to a maxillofacial surgeon whom i am seeing on friday. Its painful, frusterating, claustrophobic, i cant eat properly as my mouth only opens about an inch and its really annoying! Does it sound like TMD?
So will this maxillofacial surgeon know what to do and know what the go is? because after reading some of your posts it seems like no-one knows anything about TMD its something that never gets fixed, which scares the hell outta me being 22 and is not coping after only 16days.
If this guy doesn't know what to do, what would you suggest or reccommend?
Is chiropractic anygood? any feedback would be highly appreciated as i'm seriously going insane and think i will starve to death soon if i don't get this fixed. i've lost 5kgs in 16 days and also i need one of my wisdom teeth out.... how the hell are they gunna get in there????

Also i'm in australia

chiropractic is very good. ----antihistamines and antibiotics wont help any as this isnt and allergy or an infection. chiro can help it get unlocked. I wouldent head to a maxillofacial surgeon yet.(when you do make sure that they are well versed in the tmj)

I think that the first thing you should do is get the wisdom teeth out. this may resolve the issue----and then get to a chiropractor. If that doesnt resolve the issue--find a good tmj specialist. Id say neruomuscular dentist--they have the most knowledge and if they cant help you they will know where to send you.

watch your posture---put ice on it and take ibuprophen if it hurts too bad.

it does sound like tmd---get into a chiro and he will be able to help you unlock your jaw.

how did this all start? meaning have you had any accidents?
