How do you convince your dr that there is
something wrong with you? I first got sick
about 5 years ago, after my son was born.
Since then I've experimented with my diet
and have hit on what works for me, but
it's very limiting, no starch or sugar at
all.
So, I've been trying to get help from the
medical community. maybe I can be more
flexible with my diet with some medical
guidance... or avoid a more serious
illness, but I can't find a dr who will
believe that certain foods make me sick.
Even the dr that diagnosed me as
hypoglycemic after a 3hr blood glucose
tolerance test...
Any thoughts? should I bother trying to
convince some doctor? or should I just
continue with what works for me? Am I
taking a health risk by treating this
myself?

You aren't taking any risks so long as you
are making sure you're getting all the
necessary vitamins in your diet and if
you're not you're supplementing. Finding
a good doctor won't necessarily help
because the only people who seem to really
know what you need to eat are the people
who have it, most doctors who know
anything about it will simply say 'low
carbohydrate, high protein' and that's
about it. How long have you been on the
diet that's working and what can't you eat
right now?

I can't answer that question. Even my
endo, who specialzes in metabolic
disorders and who diagnosed me, seems to
have difficulty treating me.
My PCP is still in denial about the whole
thing.... I remember him looking at the
results of my GTT, shaking his head saying
'But that's rare!" How can you have it?
It's so RARE!"
You could try consulting with a
nutritionist, but it should be one who has
experience treating hypoglycemia, and not
one who thinks the diabetic diet will work
for hypoglycemics.
Hi, very frustrating hey? I think a
natralpath would be the only kind of
doctor help you will find. They have
access to all the same tests and will work
with and for you. They can be pricey but,
you may want to just try a couple visits
and see what you get out of them. They
usually have broad knowledge with foods
and that is what we need. Doctors do not
know enough about it. It has only been
reconized as an actual problem not too
long ago.
I have not tried a naturalpath yet but,
always hear very good things!
You will probably see what he/she knows
the very first visit. So you won't have to
spend more if he/she doesn't work for you.
