Post Op Mri Report (laminectomy & Discectomy L5-s1) Posted: 07-11-07 17:14pm
Surgery was in Nov 06 , I'm 22 years of
age
MRI Report
Findings
There is minimal retrolisthesis of L5-S1
.Lumbar alignment otherwise un
remarkable.Moderate degenrative dics
disease at L5-S1.The remaining disc space
heights are matintained.Marrow signal is
unremarable .There has been a left side
laminectomy at L5-S1.Posterior elements
otherwise intact .Conus medullaris tapers
normally and termintates at the L1-L2
Level
The L1-L2,L2-L3 AND L3-L4 LEVELS are
unremarkable
At L4-5 There is mild diffuse disc bulging
posterorly with slight focality
centrally.This does not imping neural
elements . Centreal canal is well
maintained at this level
At L5-S1 ,Left sided Laminectomy. There is
a Large amount of scar in the left side of
the epidural space and laminectomy site.In
a Left paracentral and psoterolateral
location there is large mass like area of
scar that enhances and hence does not
represent residual or recurrent disc
protrusion but scar .This scar has
mass-effect and is modertely displaceing
the left sdie traversing s1 nerve root
Postertirly.This foal area of anterior
epidural and psterolatieral disc space
scar measures app..07 mm In AP x1.3cm in
transverse dimesion. In the midline of the
epidural space to the right og the scar
and contiguous with it there is a central
disc progtustion of small to moderate size
but this does not impinge neural
elements.Central canal and neural foramina
are maintained
Impression; Laminectomy on the left at
L5-S1 with an extensive amount of scar
involving the left laminectomy site and
left lateral epidural space. Additionally,
there is ''mass like'' enhancing scar at
the posterolateral and paracentral asapect
of the disc space on the left that is
causing a mild to moderat amount of mess
-effect upon the elft traversing S1 Nerve
root.
As it enhances it reprents granulation
tissue or scare and does not reprensent
residual or recrueent disc protrsion.
There is small to moderate amount of
central disc protrusion at this level, but
this does not impinge neural elements
Mild Central disc bulding at L4-5 That
does not impinge neural elements
Moderate degenerative disc disease at
L5-S1 .Other unremarkable Study

It would seem that you have scar tissue
which is putting pressure on your spinal
cord as well as your left nerve root.
This would give you back pain and left leg
pain. Surgery is an option, but scars
usually grow back, and get larger every
time the site is operated on. You could
do a series of epidural injections to see
if it will decrease some of the swelling
and give your spinal cord and nerve root
more room.

As I am not a physician, I really could
not say for sure. You would need an
opinion from a surgeon.
