Yeast Infection? Posted: 07-13-07 09:48am
at first, i thought it might be a yeast
infection, but i'm not experiencing any
discharge at all. so i'm thinking
something else?
i've been extremely uncomfortable with
this for the last 4 days or so. i haven't
called my doctor because, well for one i'm
being seen by a clinic that offers
pregnancy care & two i have an
appointment set up for this coming monday.
the clinic doesn't take any medical
emergency appointments, so if i want it
checked out by a doctor now i'd have to
spend my time waiting in the emergency
room.
i'm only itchy when i'm sitting or laying
down. when i'm up & about during the
day, i don't notice it too much. i guess
perhaps because my mind if occupied by
other thoughts, and because i am moving
around. but it's extremely itchy! and
extremely dry. a bit red, too. any idea
what could be going on down there girls?
i'm definitely asking my doctor at
monday's appointment. i just wanted to see
what everyone on here had to say. it
doesn't sound serious, right? just
uncomfortable, extremely.

It sounds to me like a yeast infection.
Sometimes you may not get all of the
symptoms. It sucks but is very easy to
treat. So mention it to your doctor and
you should be feeling better in no time!

when i just recently had (and still have)
a yeast infection i only had the itching
and it wasn't continuous and no other
symptoms. but they sent a culture and it
came back yeasty! my Dr said it looked
irritated too.
hopefully if that is what it is, it goes
away faster than mine!

i'm thinking it's a yeast infection now,
too. the itchyness [sp?] is still there
& now i'm getting a bit swollen. i
hope letting it go for this long, about 5
days now, is okay? i don't want to self
diagnose & even moreso, i don't want
to self treat, without a doctor knowing
first.
from what i have read online, i should be
alright, as well as the baby. i've got
less than 2 days left til my appointment.
i'm just trying to figure out how to keep
my mind from thinking about it.
so itchy! ugh!

Dont worry the yeast infection will have
no effect on your unborn child it will
just be a nightmare for you!!
It is best to be diagnosed by you doctor
rather than treat yourself esp while you
are pregnant and because you have never
had a yeast infection before so you cant
be 100% sure thats what it is!
Try having a salt bath this should help
with the swelling and soreness. Wear panty
liners as these will keep the area as dry
as possible! Hope your feeling better
soon!

as long as you get it sorted when you next
see your doctor. when i caught it i was
left untreated for a while as i didnt know
what it was and i mentioned it to my
midwife on my hospital tour and she took a
look and gave me medication. thank god! it
drove me nut and got me down for a while.
good luck and hope it goes well xxx

just a random fact, you don't catch a
yeast infection. it's a fungus that's
always present, it just gets a bit
overgrown. because it's a fungus, it
thrives in warm, dark, moist areas. it
can be passed to the baby if it's not
treated. they might get thrush from it if
you have it while giving birth. then they
can pass it onto your nipples if you are
breastfeeding and you will have thrush on
your nipples.
apparently its also similar to bacterial
vaginosis so it might be a good idea to
have the doc check it so you know you're
treating the right thing.

thanks girls for all the advice in the
replies & the comfort.
and yes, i will definitely get it sorted
out at my Monday's appointment. i was
reading some more online & the whole
bacterial vaginitis thing is a bit scarey,
since it could cause preterm delivery
&/or rupture your membranes early if
it isn't diagnosed & treated in time.
i doubt it's that serious, but you really
never know. i'm thinking a yeast
infection, still.
i'll let you all know what the doctor
says. really though, i appreciate
everything.
as silly as this might sound to some, keep
your fingers crossed it isn't anything
majorly serious.

Good luck at the doctor.
My yeast infections never have the
discharge, just itch like crazy and it
burns when I pee. I unfortunately have
one now which I'm treating with Monistat
(the OB's nurse said it was fine to use
while pregnant).
I've had recurrent yeast infections for
years, and unfortunately, being pregnant
seems to make me even more suspectible to
them.
It's best to have the first one diagnosed
by the doctor. In the meantime, eat
plenty of yogurt with live active cultures
(the bacteria is friendly for your vagina
and helps to restore the natural pH), so
if it is a yeast infection, hopefully, you
can start getting the good bacteria
reestablished. I'm taking acidophilus
pills daily to help prevent yeast
infections (my OB said it was OK being as
I get an infection every 3 weeks if I
don't take them). Also, be sure you drink
plenty of water as that dilutes your urine
and will help it not burn so badly when
you pee.
