this is probably going to sound incredibly stupid, but look who's posting Laughing

okay, all of this talk about breastfeeding got me thinking about what i want to do again when i graduate, (I almost typed "grow up")
I want to do something with babies, and so I googled lactation consultant and they work with babies, and they make pretty good money.

well I read the requirements for having to take the test, and it says (this is just one example) you have to have an associates degree in something, as well as anatomy and physiology, sociology, psychology or counseling, child development, nutrition, and medical terminology hours.

so if i get my associates degree, would i be taking those classes too or would I have to get my associates and then take those classes? I feel really silly asking this, I should probably know the answer.

Hey. It depends what you are getting your associates degree in. Soc and Psych are pretty much general requirements for almost everything. And then as long as you were getting your degree in something like biology (which would cover the anatomy adn such) or child development or something along those lines most of it should be covered. You may have to take one or two extra courses but it wouldn't be much. Thats just something you'd have to explore and talk to the college you are considering. You can always call up the admissions people at different colleges and see what they have to say or they could refer you to someone in the college that could better help you. Or see if you could talk to a lactation consultant in the local hospital and see what they had to do. I'm sure they'd be willing to let you know!

I'm pretty sure you'd be taking the classes you mentioned while getting your associates degree, not after. You don't just take classes aimed towards becoming a lactation consultant while you're in school - you're required to take lots of "core" classes when you begin college, and as you get deeper into the degree, you'd be focusing more on the lactation aspect.

i was thinking about getting my associates in child development and then signing up to do the lactation consultant certification process stuff. i know im young and i know i change my mind all the time, this just seems like a good possibility. i'll get to work with babies and make fairly good money. the website said between 50-70 grand a year. to me that's good.
