Going Off Meds ? Posted: 07-15-07 19:16pm
I would love to go off my meds and give it
a whirl, but want to get some feedback on
chances of another seizure.
I had my first grand mal about 15 years
ago and my second when I tried to get off
my meds 3 years later. The first EEG was
abnormal and was put on dilantin and my
hair started falling out. Then they put me
on depakote which was fine until I got to
an appropriate childbearing age and then
my doc changed me to lamictal. I had an
EEG a couple of years ago and it was
normal (awake and asleep). My doc said I
could try to go off meds but cant drive
for six months.
Just wondering if anyone has any
experiences similar or know of any they
would like to share and what the outcome
or reoccurence was, if any.
Thanks

My wife was able to achieve permanent
seizure controusing a combination of diet,
sleep regimen and eeg neurofeedback. I
think the key is, if you are living on the
edge of your seizure threshold (either
with or without meds), to know your
]seizure triggers and avoid them.

yeah, that is just it... they could never
pinpoint what my seizures were from. The
best they could tell me is that it was
puberty related. I had my first at 13 and
my second at 16 and never one since and I
am now 29. I only take total 300 mg per
day of lamictal, which my doc says is
about the lowest dose you could probably
even take. I really want to give it a try
since everything seems to be normal, but I
can't drive for 6 months and that means I
would have to have a chauffeur or
something to commute to work everyday. I
am not sure if insurance might pay for
something like that or not, but I guess it
is worth asking.
Thanks for your feedback.

So I found out that my insurance won't do
anything of the sort.
I was wondering what other types of
medications, if anyone knows, there are
out there to treat epilepsy so I can
research them and if there have been any
studies into the long term use side
effects of lamictal.
