Update - Brian
Posted: 07-16-07 10:03am

Brian was dismissed from NICU yesterday. On the way home, he started to become a bit congested. He became worse as the evening progressed. When he slept, he sounded like he had sleep apnea. It sounded as though his tongue was going way back in his throat. We were going to go to emergency but didn't because he seemed better if I held him up. I ended up holding him up all night. I am exhausted. We have a doctor's appt in about an hour. I wouldn't be surprised if he was placed in NICU again. Perhaps he is fine and I am just freaking out for nothing. I hope that is it. Brian's cord looks like it is getting infected as well. It has been bleeding a little since we brought him home. He had three cords going through his belly button, so it hasn't had a chance to heal like most cords.

He was officially diagnosed with severe respiratory distress syndrome. I read that this almost never occurs in infants who are born after 37 weeks. I know that he was at least 37 weeks. When I talked to the neonatalogists, they didn't really have an answer for me. I did have Premature Rupture of Membranes early on but since I sealed and it seemed like I had enough amniotic fluid, it wasn't a great concern.

I am confused and upset. I just want my little one to be healthy.

He is such a good lil' boy and very hungry. He has bonded with me quite well. I just love him so much. He has the most wonderful disposition. He is the biggest fighter. I will provide an update after the doctors appt. Please think and pray for him.

Thanks

i hope you don't mind, but i put your first names on our prayer list at church so they will pray for you and your family for the next few weeks at least. i'm sorry your little guy is still having problems. some babies just don't get an easy ride in life. my sister in law's nephew has had a few heart surgeries already and he is only 6 months old. it just isn't fair that these little innocent ones should have to go through all that struggle but it sure is amazing what a lot of prayer and good doctors can do for them. stay strong (i'm sure you will for your boys) and hang in there!

Poor Brian, I am so sorry that he's still feeling poorly although its great news he was able to come home. I will keep checking the post for your update so I can see how the doctors went. It must be so exhausting for you. Stay stong hun and I am sure things will turn around soon.

Thanks everyone.

It turns out I was just freaking out. Although he is a bit stuffy, Brian's oxygen level was normal at the doctor's office. For this I am so thankful! I have never been so tired. I got maybe an hour sleep last night panicking about his breathing. Hopefully I will get more tonight. The constant worry probably won't ease anytime soon but I think that's a little normal considering.

Thanks for the prayer. I have been emailing our friends and family asking them to put Brian on their prayer lists. I truly believe that it has been helping tremendously.

I will add pictures later tonight. We got some really cute ones!

Karin
