I know that Ive run into a lot of tmd patients that have trouble sleeping at night. Is this the same for any of you?

well usually when I cant sleep I take melatonin. that usually knocks me out. If that doesnt work I use essential oil of lavender ---just rub it into the temple area--it relaxes you. the other thing is sour cherry concentrate. if you need info. i can get it for you.

oh and dont forget to vote on the poll:)

Most of the time I can't sleep at all - until around 2/3am. This is annoying as I get up at around 6/7am. I find though that sometimes I get to sleep at say midnight, then I keep waking up non-stop until it's finally time for me to get up for uni - I have no idea how to solve this.

I nap most afternoons and my parents tell me not to do this as it stuffs around with my body clock but I find that if I don't nap then I'm just even more tired the next day and it makes no difference to how I sleep at night.

The other night my boyfriend was staying over and I was absolutely exhausted, like I thought for sure I would be able to fall asleep. But I couldn't. I just couldn't! I was rolling over trying to get comfortable but it wouldn't work. Then at around 5am I started crying and my boyfriend woke up to comfort me and he cuddled me - but this didn't help... That night I probably got a total of 2 hrs sleep.

My mum refuses to let me use sleeping pills...

I thought that my sleeping problem lately was just stress. The last few weeks I have been taking forever to fall asleep and then wake up between 2-3 every night lately with pain. And then I am finished as I just can not get comfortable to go back to sleep another 2 hours of trying to sleep before nodding off and I have to get up at 5:30. I am so tired lately and can not function and just want to sleep.

Before this I was able to fall asleep and never wake up and now sleeping is a struggle.

tmj can be caused by stress and that also effects your sleep. have you tried sour cherry extract? that helps. also meletonin, valarian root.

where can i get that?

My stress if from the TMJ and my ankle problem since I damaged the nerves there. Having a hard time dealing with both problems at one time.

The mouth guard has made my sleeping worse.

Is there anything else people use to sleep.

I have tried what you suggested and still have the same problem.

I really do not want to go on sleeping pills, I will leave that as a last resort.
