I Was Diagnosed With Bi-polar Disorder, Need Some Advice. Posted: 07-17-07 18:27pm
Hello all, I am a new member here on the
boards. My name is Derrick. I just have a
couple of things to discuss and would like
few answers.
First off, I am 23 years old, I have
been a father for 7 months to a wonderful
baby boy. Secondly, I was engaged this
time last year to his mother, when then my
illness which I was unaware off cost me to
be in both of their lives like I should
be. We are finally beginning to work out
our problems. Well, more less my
problems.
I just want to ask anyone who suffers
from this illness, if being Bi-Polar
causes you to lie about the most stupidest
things. My lying has caused so many family
problems, and problems with my baby's
mother. I love "Kat" a lot, she is the
mother of my son, and the one person I
want to spend the rest of my life with.
But I told so many lies, about myself,
money, past, everything , It cost me our
relationship, and being able to be with my
son everyday. I lied about A LOT of
things, even when the truth was good
enough. The stories I told everyone, were
so believable, Even eventually I begin to
believe them to a certain extent. Up until
recently I still denied everything. Since
I have been honest about everything, and
trying my best to fix my problems, things
are starting to look up, for the best. My
doctor has started me on Depakote ER, I
hope this stuff works, only been on it for
a few days. But my main question, after
all of my ramblings, is... would being
bi-polar make me feel like I need to lie
to impress people? Its not really that I
want to lie, its the feeling that I had
to, but most of my small lies became big
ones. That was the problem. Any help would
be appreciated, and thanks for reading.
Im bipolar - just found out 7 months ago.
I feel the pressure too. and yes it will
make you do and say things just for
validation. I have this to say to you
derrick and I hope it helps. repeat as
often as you can in you mind and out loud.
No matter what I do I am still the same
person No matter what I do or SAY I cannot
change who I am. Now after saying to a
few times think about the action or words
you are about to say or do and decide if
it is worth doing it just to lessen the
pain you feel and the need for validation
that you can get some other way. then
decide what method you will use to get
that validation met. I am new to all this
crap so I hope this helps you it has
helped me and I pray for you and me.

Lying Posted: 09-11-07 08:16am
I found I lie to rationilize my behavior
to others so I appear normal. I don't
know if it has to do with being bipolar or
if its something I do so I don't confront
irrational behavior when I'm manic or
hypomanic.
