Husband With Post Natal Depression Posted: 07-18-07 01:11am
I have just found out that I am
unexpectantly pregnant. My husband with
whom I had a very loving and stable
relationship has taken the news extremely
badly. I believe he may be suffering form
the first signs of paternal post natal
depression. I do not know what to do to
help him overcome the fears that seem to
be overwhelming him. I am worried sick as
he has said that he cannot face to touch
me and now has spoken of even getting a
divorce. Is there anyone out there who
has had a similar experience? Any advice
on how to handle this situation would be
greatly appreciated.

WOW I am very sorry to hear that! So,
everything was OK then this happened out
of the blue? Could he just have a fear of
having children or being a parent? Will he
sit and talk to you? Maybe the best thing
would to be to talk to a councellor.. Find
out exactly how he's feeling to. I am soo
sorry. However I would also like to
congradulate you on your pregnancy. I will
go online and do some research and
hopefully I can find some sites that may
help you. Honestly I have never gone
through what you are, but I really felt
the need to respond. I will def look now
for anything online.

Here are some sites of people experiencing
the same or perhaps a similar experience.
I want to wish you the best of luck!

Well everything was fine until about 24
hours after me telling him I think I'm
pregnant. In fact we had the type of
relationship that many of our friends
envied. I honestly never thought that
this would be his reaction. I knew he
would be shocked, but divorce! I think he
does have a fear of being a parent but as
I always wanted children I find it very
hard to understand. I don't know if he'll
talk to a councellor although I will
suggest it. Thank you for your concern
though.

Maybe it would be worth it though for both
of you. Even if you went. Perhaps, they
could give you a better understanding as
to what could be going on. Have you asked
him why he is so upset, if you have
discussed this in the past? Is he the type
to plan and try to keep goals and
timelines etc. I guess I would understand
more if you were having problems before
hand? Did you use any birth control
methods?
