Dating Someone With Herpes Posted: 07-18-07 18:07pm
Hi, I'm not a "herpster" but the girl I've
just started dating is....genital herpes.
We haven't had sex. We had the "talk"
just last night, and I have no problem
with using condoms, but my question is,
will that protect me the best? I do not
want to contract herpes, but would like to
have sex with her. And does her having
herpes mean I can never go down on her?
Thanks for your time! D

Condoms will protect you from Herpes as
much as any other STD. But the only thing
is the virus is transferred from skin to
skin contact not by bodily fluids. I
would suggest she go on a daily medication
called valtrex that reduces the chances of
passing it by 70%. You could take a
vitamin called Lysine each day to keep
yourself healthy.
Just do not have sex while she has a sore
or even 2-3 days after the sore is gone.
The skin sheds infected skin cells after
it gone.
You can give her oral, just not when she
has an outbreak. The chances of you
getting it in your mouth are very nill, as
long as there is so sore.
Another precaution is DO NOT let her give
you oral when she has a sore in or on her
mouth lips or tonge. She can give you
genital herpes this way.
This is a very noble thing you have done
for her. From past experience it means a
lot to a woman for a man to accept her the
way she is. I give you respect for that.

OK, I may be a "great guy" and all that,
but of course I'm asking these Q's because
I'm concerned........I'm not in love with
her, so should I risk carrying this around
with me forever? I do like her and think
we might be something special, but.....?
I accept her and don't think ill of her
for the herpes, but I've gotta look out
for me, right?

Its a hard thing to decide. If you not
love her then dont do it. If you got it
then you haveit for the rest ofyour life
and what if you break up and you are now
the person that has to have the talk.
If you care very deeply about someone then
it should not matter. But if I would have
had the choice I would have said NOOOOO.
You have to take care of yourself.

Amen Rosie. We haven't done anything at
all, and I don't think we're going to.
She's a good woman but I don't see a
future here, so I'll just have a different
type of talk with her very soon. You all
know the one.....
