Birthing Ball Posted: 07-19-07 14:56pm
So I have my ever trusting birthing ball
(well its a gym ball... same difference)
Anyways I was just wondering if anyone had
or has one and is using during pregnancy.
I am 38 weeks and I sit on it alot and
rock my hips about and
it really does help relieve pelvic
pressure. I was just wondering if anybody
used theres differently? I know you can
tone up your 'pushing' muscles on them and
encourage the baby into the pelvis with
them but I dont know the best moves to do
it!!
At 38 weeks I might be abit late but hey
its something to pass the time!

i want one of those. they have one at my
prenatal class and i was so surprised at
how comfy it was to sit on. we probably
won't get our own at this point. our
house is so incredibly tiny that i already
don't know where to put everything.
they're supposed to have them at the
hospital though so i will probably only
get to use it when i'm in labour. the
only other way i've seen it used is for
leaning on when you are on your knees so
you can rock back and forth that way.
it's supposed to be a good position for
having counterpressure massage on your
back if you have back labour.

Kaerbear - you should get one! I have one
(for workouts) and love it! They're
really cheap at Zellers or Walmart and
they don't take up any space because you
can deflate them anytime and fold them up
into the box!

I had one, Jolie! I'd sit on it at the
computer and rotate my hips 360 degrees. I
used it to try to dilate/efface and engage
the baby, because gravity is your friend.
I also tried to use it during my labor,
but that was a new kind of pain that I
don't wish on my worst enemy. The birthing
ball made it worse.
but everybody's labor is different!

do you suppose it can help strengthen the
knees? i have been having a lot of
problems with my knees lately. they are
sore and weak and swollen. i am worried
about this because i know i would like to
walk and squat and do all the things you
do during labour to help it along. i'm
worried i won't have the strength in my
knees to do it for long. maybe i can
convince rich to let me buy one today. i
think the sitting at the computer thing is
an excellent idea, i do enough of that,
that's for sure!
