Baby Engaged...
Posted: 07-20-07 05:25am

So, I was just wondering...

When your baby's head got engaged, could you tell when and did you have any pain? The reason I ask is because I've recently been having discomfort in my pelvis, and on my pubic bone, and her feet are up high on my right side. And I can feel her back going all down my left side?!

At 32 weeks tomorrow is it too early for her head to get engaged, even slightly?

i think with jordynne her head engaged early, but she was pretty much head down at like 17 weeks when i first moved here and stayed there. near the end i cant remember when she started moving down, wich sucked, i swear it felt like she was gonna fall out some days. its realy not fun but they are just preping themselves to get ready to come out. at least the babies head down , and if theyre engaged theres no turning around so labor should be not so bad for ya.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice.

Only what worries me is that labour really feels round the corner, I have loads of pressure down there, pain in my pelvis, and on the pubic bone. Aswell as a dodgy tummy, excuse tmi. lol. but its true, I'm kinda worried that some recent stresses I'm having are gunna put me in early labour. Crying

thats not good, id try and relax as much as possible at least hold off a few more weeks if possible. my last month was like that. Walking hurt soo much. from what i heard thats like your pelvic bones shifting to make space to deliver the baby. Just keep a look out for contractions or any other signs of labor. Id tell your dr about al the pains at your next appt so they can check you out to make sure whats going on if anything at all. Try not to continue to stress out too much thuogh Smile

Thanks, I will keep the stress down. Just the father of this baby has his priorities all wrong, that and daily life being pregnant at 16 gets me so stressed! I think I'll have a pampering day today, relax and unwind.

If my girl was born now would she have a good chance of survival or long term damage? I just worry as a few people in my family have gone in early and as much as I want her out and in my arms, just not yet!!lol

chances are her lungs arent fully developed she has a good chance of survival though but it all depends on how developes she is already. Things can happen a friend of mine had her baby still born at 36 weeks. Just if you think u may be in labor go to the hospital asap. Because if u end up in labor anytime soon they will want to get meds to the baby to strengthen the lungs as much as they can. some babies can be born totally fine early while others dont do so good it all depends on the babies development .

Good luck and try to take it easy. I know though, it's easier said than done especially if there is something (or someone) in the back of your mind stressing you out. I hope you can take a load off!

your baby would be considered premature if born now. they consider them late-preterm if they are born after 34 weeks, but there are still more risks involved at that point. i know that here, the baby would stay in the nicu until at least 37 weeks no matter what. the baby probably only weighs about 3 or 4 pounds right now (5 at most). there are a lot of risks with premature babies. they may not be able to breathe on their own, they might not have the strength to suck and not be able to feed on their own. there's more chance of them having complications like cerebral palsy and digestive problems. their chance of survival is good but only because of medical technology and knowledge. but you want more than just survival for the baby, you want them to thrive and be healthy. at 32 weeks that baby is just not fully ready to be born.

the head can become engaged in the pelvis around 34 weeks. if yours were to do so now that wouldn't necessarily mean you were going to go into labour right away. they can move down gradually. the engagement in the pelvis only means that the baby will not likely be doing any big movements anymore, like flipping over.

do you have a midwife? or is there a place where you go to get prenatal care where they would have someone you can talk to about the stress? you have to be resourceful and do what's best for you and the baby and that includes getting help for the emotional and mental side of pregnancy because they do have an effect on the health of your pregnancy. it's a huge change for both parents and you need to find some supports to help you through it so the baby has a better chance of staying put until she is ready. what about your parents? or any other friend or relative that can help, that has some parenting experience, and that will help the situation, rather than contributing to the drama (some girlfriends can do that even though they are well meaning). and try explaining to baby's dad that he has a responsibility to the baby as well and that means helping you through the pregnancy so the baby will be healthier. that means emotional support as well - ie. not causing you additional stress and worry. i hope he smartens up! Wink

the discomfort thing is normal. i've had that for a long time and it's hard to deal with at times but i'd rather put up with it than have my baby early and have to see it struggle through it's first weeks of life.

good luck!

I'm off to bed but will come back and respond to each post properly. Just wanted to let you all know me and my girly are fine, silly mummy just worrying again. Laughing

Lauren - I have the same thing going on with me right now. I just saw my OBGYN on Thursday and asked him about "dropping" and the feelings / effects of it. He told me that it was still a bit early, but that it could happen. What I was feeling was alot of pressure and pain in my uterus, and when he checked me, he told me that my pubic symphasis had started to seperate slightly and that was the pain I was feeling - that and like you said, all the ligaments are stretching getting ready for baby. I am just over 33 weeks, so we still have a bit to go, but everything can happen at different stages for women!
Hang in there though....it'll be time for us soon! But glad to hear that you're feeling better Wink

Aww sorry to hear you're having the same discomfort.

I'm seeing the midwife on Friday at 3.30 so I need to talk to her about the pain in my pelvis and pubic bone. I can feel baby's bum up high and her back all down my left side now, so I'm assuming she may have began to become engaged. I guess she can always flip out of it but we'll see. I'm 32 weeks and 2 days now so I'm not too worried about prem labour, the dodgy belly has gone, must have been something I ate, lol. And I am sure the discomfort I've been having is just stretching and stuff, afterall I'm bound to get it more as I'm only 16 and my body technically isn't 100% ready for carrying a baby, but its no big deal. She's kicking and moving around like a yoyo today. She woke me up last night from kicking me so hard in the ribs! Laughing
