I think it greatly depends on what you do
for work. I think if you are applying for
a job that smoking dope could cause a
public danger (truck drivers, bus drivers,
pilots, etc) I agree. I also feel they
should probably be limited to alcohol too.
There are a lot of jobs that test that I
think it's silly. I would rather my
surgeon not use any substances, but I
would much rather have a surgeon that
smoked a fatty last night than drank 4
martinis.

I have to agree. My job drug tests, and
it's stupid. ( i work in a casino ) I
personally don't see the bad in a big of
mary jane. I havn't smoked in ages, but i
would rather smoke a bowl, than get
tanked, and feel like total crap the next
day Oh how i miss those
days

Aren't there different "levels" of testing
as well? And don't employers get to
choose which substances to test for?

I actually lent my
urine to a friend so she could get a job
as a file clerk. Quite frankly, aside
from assaulting the english alphabet, I
think smoking a little might actually help
one cope with the doldrums of having to do
a job such as this.
I don't think that employers should test
for jobs such as these, or others where
the public welfare is not put in danger by
such activities. They can't tell by
typical drug tests if the person is high
on the job or not, and I really don't care
what people do in their free time. As
long as they aren't coming in to work
coked up or drunk and vomiting, then I
guess I don't care. If they aren't
testing for alcohol, they shouldn't be
testing for pot IMO.

ha ha yeah ive done that before
birch- there are different levels of drug
testing but they usually do an all around
test for everything
depending on where it is that you work
i could nderstand if they were testing for
like...cocaine or heroine or something but
for pot...ahh thats stupid
in SOME cases

if i were to apply to some company which
offered me a really menial job doing
filing or something similar, i think it
would be a really sad thing if i were to
be asked for a drug test. my personal and
social life is my own business. as long
as i turn up to work and do my work
properly, what business is it of theirs to
demand to know what i do in my spare time?
perhaps they should fit cctv cameras in
my appartment too...?

That's what I was going to say. I don't
see the need in drug testing anyone at
work unless an accident happens. As long
as you aren't lighting up at work, there
shouldn't be a problem.
It's nobody's business what I choose to do
in my spare time.

It depends on the company. I was drug
tested before I got hired at my first job
a few years ago, but it was a job at a
daycare. I can understand not wanting
people being high when it involves the
safety of other peoples children. I can
also understand this for professions like
doctors and surgeons. However, I think it
is ridiculous to test people if they are
at a job filing away papers or running a
cash register.

you know on more than one occasion i have
seen docs come in and deliver babies and
do c-secs drunk as stunks and irritable as
hell--it is like they need to be sober all
the time or at least when they know they
are on call cuz it is just ridiculous for
them to come in in that condition and
work..i think it wise to have someone else
come in-- once i had to call another doc
that just so happened to be in the
hospital in the middle of the night to
help. This was pre-drug testing days...so
ifeel it is necessary .

"A man should be judged by the quality of
his work, not the quality of his piss"
-Kottonmouth Kings
I beleive its a invasion of privacy. First
off, maybe the worker lives with someone
who smokes. Secondhand can cause you to
fail a drug test.
Obviously if the owner doesn't know the
worker smokes, theres obviously no
problem. If the worker comes to work high,
then they can fire him/her. What they do
at home should be their own business.

Amen! For sure, if you are fired for
failing a pee test and that is the only
reason, you go to work every day, you do
your job well, then its wrong to fire an
employee on those grounds. You make a very
good point.

im workin on gettin a job-- im THC-free
these days, but its still a concern... i
havent gotten back to the doctor after
having my son yet and theres something
wrong with my back n ribs n stuff that
makes it hurt so bad sometimes i cant pick
up my 1 month old son and i vomit... if i
fail, its for pain pills but its not like
im takin them without reason!
but what if for some dumb reason i failed
because i was around people who were
smoking and i wasnt doin nothing... picked
the wrong brownie pan- who knows! i
remember being in school and a girl got
expelled for failing a pee test that they
gave her because she SMELLED like reefer!

I don't think residual smoke would have
enough THC in it to register...and getting
expelled for smelling like weed is Nazi
behavior if you ask me!
