Menstrual period and ovulation after delivery / child birth Posted: 07-22-07 06:58am
I gave birth in January this year to my
first child who sadly passed away. My
periods returned in April but I have not
been ovulating, is this normal?
thanks

After delivery, ovulation is suppressed
due to an increase of the hormone
"prolactin". The body needs some time
(several months) after delivery to
establish ovulations and regular cycles.
Menstruation can occur before ovulation
has re-established itself ... but without
ovulations the vaginal bleedings you seem
to be experiencing are not real menstrual
cycles, by definition.
