Harry Potter 7 Discussion --- Spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Confused I just want to get some other thoughts on Book 7. I was highly disappointed by it and don't feel that it was up to the standard of books 4,5 and 6. anyone else? Thoughts, feelings?

I thought it was pretty short. It looked shorter than the rest. But I didn't check to see if it actually was. Plus it was more fast paced than the others so that helped the reading along.

I wasn't disappointed at all with it, I thought it was the best one out of the seven.

It was certainly an emotional journey reading it!

What didn't you like about it? Question

First of all I don't understand why Dumbledore had to be villified. It just didn't make sense to me at all and seemed like overkill. I also didn't like the ending, it just seemed too pat. I also thought that I would see some reason as to why Harry was "the chosen one" like some hidden talent or ability or something. Once again that wasn't there. I felt like the books should have been titled Harry, Ron and Hermione. Because it really wasn't about Harry Potter it was about how once again his friends save his ass.

I enjoyed it, I agree that it would have been better if she had explained why Harry was the chosen one. The ending was a bit short what did they do between Voldermot dying and the 19 years.

Some parts of it I definitely enjoyed. Some parts of it even made me cry like the death of Mad-Eye and Dobby. But when Fred, Tonks and Remus died it was thrown into the middle of the battle and I couldn't really feel too bad for them. The pace of the story at that point was too fast to really notice that they had died. I thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Weasly's battle with Bellatrix. That one made me laugh. Laughing

tigresacanela (sorry i'm so bad with remembering names) you sound so cute talking about the book. sorry if cute sounds like a bad word but the names in it are kinda funny you know? anyway, you're the first person that's made me even remotely interested in picking one of these books up. i love reading but don't like bandwagons lol. still, i could use something good to read right now. maybe i'll check them out. i like fantasy books like the dune series and tolkein's books and the mists of avalon and watership down are two of my favourites. anyhoo, sorry i don't have anything to add to the topic as i haven't read it yet. just wanted to say your enthusiasm seems so genuine that i am thinking about getting the books and reading them.

I know it's going to sound horrible but I wish Draco hadn't lived.

What did you think about Neville growing a spine? I thought that it was wonderful.

I actually felt a lot of sympathy towards Draco, in spite of myself.

Neville was splendid! I was so proud of him. I was proud of Percy too (prat that he is).

I cried like a baby when Hedwig died. I thought it was so sad that she was too annoyed to even look at Harry, and then she just... was gone... Shocked Crying
or Very sad

And I cried when Kreacher did his 180. And again when Dobby died. And... *sigh*

I was right about Snape being in love with Lily Very
Happy I feel clever! I didn't have all the details right (my story sounded better, I thought) but... yeeaaaah baby!

What were your favorite moments, Kay?

Oh, I had a million and one! I adored that the guys actually cursed! I was thinking to myself that I'd be highly skeptical if they were constantly in fear for their lives and not one swear word slipped out. I loved when Harry told off Lupin for wanting to leave Tonks behind and otherwise being a "git". Then when Kreacher did a turn around and at the end was leading the fight in Harry's name. I actually like the break in to Gringotts. And shivers went down my spine when they went to Bathilda's. I noticed that you Snape/Lily theory was there! You get sooo many points for that one. It knocked me back a good one! I totally didn't see it coming! However I truly hated all the bad things that came out about Dumbledore. I thought that it was uneccessary. He's been a paragon of virtue for six books, why muck it all up now? And I was exceptionally angry at the reason why Harry was able to win. It was like she ran out of ideas and pulled that one out of her butt. Rolling Eyes

I thought that the "Harry is the 7th horcrux" plotline was brilliant! But I did think that the whole "that wand is mine and not yours" thing was kind of lame. It's pretty much like Voldermort was undone by his own hand, not really because of anything Harry did.

Although I did really like that Harry faced death willingly, where Voldermort spent all of his time trying to escape it. I thought that was a nice touch. I would have liked to have seen Harry really step into his element though and was looking forward to a real knock-down drag-out fight between them at the end.

I loved when Hermione was freaking out on Ron. Loved it loved it loved it. Shocked

Ok, thanks Laura. He got this from some online source that supposedly scanned the entire book including that part onto a website. I was thinking since you guys hadn't said anything about it that it was a hoax. What about Snape? He said he died too.

No...he found it on that same website. He likes to watch the movies but he's not a reader at all. I just started reading the books about two months ago. You don't have to spoil it cuz I do plan on reading and I don't have a great attachment to Snape anyways. Thanks for letting me know Ron didn't die. I was worried about that one.

i'm only on page 200 right now so i just scrolled through this with my eyes closed. i just wanted to say how completely annoyed i am...

last night i was reading another forum i go to and i opened a thread that had absolutely nothing to do with harry potter... there at the top of the page in huge letters was an ad that said "BELLATRIX KILLS RON AND ANYONE OVER 12 THAT READS HARRY POTTER IS A LOSER".

you know what the saddest part about that spoiler is? the person PAID MONEY to have it appear as a banner at the top of the page.

anyway, nick and i are trading on and off so who knows when i'll finish it. i'm going to try to plow through it while he's at work if finn will let me.

sometimes i hate the internet!

I'll just tell you...nothing, nevermind. Bridget don't read the rest of this post!

Laura, I thought the King's Cross thing was pretty lame too. I guess I just expected more fireworks. Also it doesn't help that this is the last book. I guess it's just that there's no more speculation. Now we know, and it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be. That wand thing was exactly what I was talking about. That was just ridiculous, he had no better plan, no better power? For goodness sake he actually died!! She couldn't work in any special superpower as a reward for returning from the dead. Or she couldn't have gone the whole route with that "master of death" thing and let him actually control death or something? Actually when I started reading the book, I couldn't figure out how she was going to get away with not killing Harry. Now that I know it's a bit of a letdown is all.
