Hi there everyone! This is a weird thing..
i have breastfeed my little angel
exclusively for the past 5 months! The
thing is after every feeding lately i feel
empty and he is still hungry! I have also
noticed a slight weight loss in him too!
So last night was the first night that
after i breastfed him i gave him a
bottle!(we've had difficulties with
bottles in the past) Ironically he took
the new bottle and nipple and scarfed down
a whole 3 1/2 ounces! Does anyone know how
to increase my milk supply or should i
continue to give him a bottle after
breastfeeding if he still hungry? Or maybe
even stop breastfeeding and go straight to
the bottle?

Hi!I've been breastfeeding my little girl
for only 4 weeks but I do know its all
about supply and demand, the more you
breastfeed the more milk you will make.So
if you supplement with formula it will
lessen your supply.
I've been told by health care nurse that
when a baby is about to have a growth
spurt it will seem like you wont have
enough milk, but in actual fact the bub is
making your supply increase with their
growing needs.Thats the beauty of breast
milk, its always perfect for your baby!
If you wanted to,tho you can always start
expressing as well as
breastfeeding,beacause your telling your
breasts you need more milk and in the next
couple of days it should increase to match
the demand.
But if your really worried I'd go see your
midwife.
Hopefully I explained in to you
alright...Montanah is being a bit fussy at
the moment

i don't want to make any suggestions
because i'm not experienced with
breastfeeding, but i know my sil has been
breastfeeding and her doctor had told her
it was okay to give the baby rice cereal
at 5 months to supplement her breast milk.
BUT, she refused to do it. she said she
wanted to wait until 6 months at least,
and the baby is okay. so, i don't know.
i think that's one of those things people
argue about. hopefully some of the
experienced moms on here will catch this
post and be able to fill you in more.
good luck.

You can increase your supply by allowing
your baby to nurse as often as he wants
to, even if you're feeling empty. It's a
supply/demand thing. If your breasts feel
that more is being demanded of them,
they'll begin to produce more.
Allow your son to continue to nurse after
you feel your breasts are empty for a few
minutes, then suppliment if you need. I
agree with Karen that rice cereal will
help to satisfy his appetite as well. At 5
months, he should be developed enough to
handle it.
My daughter is 11 months, and she still
loves to suckle. Even when my breasts feel
empty, she craves the feeling of suckling.
My supply is awesome because of this, and
if she doesn't nurse for a few hours they
get uncomfortably full.

My supply dropped off at 6 months and I
did everything i could to boost it. I did
use fenugreek and mother's milk tea. You
have to drink the tea like 4 times a day
and take the herbs three times a day, but
it did make a real difference in volume.
I agree with thte other pposters to allow
your baby to nurse as often as possible.
I started my child on solids at about 5
1/2 months. The other thing I always did
was gget up in the middle of the night and
pump.
