At least once or twice a month I get a
migraine headache.. It starts out with
loss of vision in one eye (lasts for about
an hour) then I start puking and get my
headache. Either of my parents get these,
so heredity isn't a factor... Should I be
seeing a doctor about this? Oh, and
another thing I quite often (almost every
other day that I don't have a migraine)
get a throbbing headache, I can't move
around too quickly because I get really
dizzy.. The pain is usually above my
right eye.... It's been three days now
and I still have a bad headache,
throbbing, dizziness, pain above both eyes
plus im getting hot and cold flashes (more
hot than cold) is there anything that I
could be doing at home, or should I just
go to see a doctor?
P.S- would birth control have anything to
do with this?
P.P.S - i've had headaches the better part
of my life, so birth control alone isn't
whats causing this

Allergies, stress, birth control, other
meds, any illness all & other things
can cause bad headaches/migraines.
I get a variety of migraines alot &
from a variety of sources so the best
advice I can give is for you to try &
figure out if any particular activity or
time of day/month or food etc is a
possible trigger. Then try & figure
out what helps most for the different
types eg, pain killer with or without bed
rest, hot packs (uncommon but sometimes it
works for me) cold packs (more likely to
help - for me on my forehead & across
my eyes as well as on the back of my
neck!! Often at the same time), darkened
room or just protecting your eyes from
light at all times (my eyes are very light
sensitive & I find it helps if I wear
sunglasses all the time & often even
at night!! Also a sleeping mask can help
if your eyes are light sensitive & you
get any light at all into your bedroom).
Sometimes I find that the sooner I throw
up the sooner I start to feel better so
perhaps forcing this issue might help.
Some people find that certain essential
oils rubbed on their temples (or others
use vicks vapor rub) helps. Total quiet!!
Get rid of ticking clocks, turn radios
& tvs off, oil door hinges etc.
I would talk to your dr about whether you
might benefit from a change in birth
control, also are you on any other meds
that could make it worse? What pain
killers have you tried, all the migraine
ones failed me totally (i spent a
fortune!!) & for me what works is
fiorinal - the same as mersyndol only a)
cheaper & b) for some reason I react
badly to mersyndol & since the
ingredients are the same I can only assume
it's the yellow colouring used in the
mersyndols & not in fiorinal, there
are many different pain killers so try
them one at a time & see what works
best for you - but you do need to stop,
cease, desist what you're doing & rest
if you want the pain to go away!!

Whenever you're having neurological
symptoms (like vision changes or
dizziness) you should see a doctor about
it, just to rule out any neurological
problems.
