Posted: 07-23-07 06:32am

i just spoke to a friend of mine on the phone who has been ttc for a couple of years now. she has endemetriosis (sp?) polycystic ovaries and is diabetic. she told me that the doctor is going to give her a course of clomid to try and help her concieve.

i don't know much about clomid but do you think this is suitable for her? what will it help do?

thanks

The clomid is supposed to help you ovulate. I am not sure what it would help with with the endometriosis. I think with PCOS that you are not ovulating properly and that is probably where the clomid would come into play.

I have PCOS and was given clomid to take. I had to have it cd 2-9. It releases hormones to make the body ovulate. Which probably isnt happening to your friend regulary if she has PCOS.
I was given metformin too but they arent always prescribed together. I got pregnant the first month on these pills so they do work!! Smile

My doctor said that women with pcos typically respond best to clomid than to other ovulation inducers. Clomid along with metformin should help tremendously but that doesn't mean she'll get pregnant on the first round.

I have PCOS and got pregnant while taking only Metformin... but it took 6 months. The one thing to worry about if she does have PCOS and has cystic ovaries* the clomid may increase her chances of making them worse and still not releasing an egg.

*not all women who have pcos have cystic ovaries and not all women who have cystic ovaries have pcos.

I didnt mean give the impression that they would work first time or at all. I know women who havent had any sucess on both meds. Just meant they worked for me so there is hope! Smile

Yes, I think it is. I have PCOS too.. diabities is related to PCOS. I can't eat sugar or anything.. Just to try not to get diabities. Yes, CLOMID is great! My doctor wants me to try that when I am ready to try again. However, just so that she can get prepaed. Most woman with PCOS misscarry alot easier and its more likely. Another medication my doctor was going to put me on is Metamorphin (spelling) Which is a great medication! It's actually for fertility, diabities and they ar now using it for PCOS. Which is also a good choice Check it out!

I have PCOS and my Dr. gave me Clomid and glocophage, and I got pregnant on the 3rd round of 50mg. I also know people who have PCOS and the clomid didn't work for them, all she can do is try it and see what happens...we are starting to try for our second and I'll be taking the Clomid again, so hopefully it works for me this time also!!
