I just recently found out that I have
genital warts... I got it from my
ex-girlfriend who I hadn't had sex with
since Jan of this year. I'm still
incredibly shocked that I got it and
didn't know for 7 months. I'm getting it
treated by my doctor right now, but I'm
really worried and wondering about the
future.
Everywhere I look I see that it is
incurable and I will always have it now. I
know I'd like to get married someday and
have a family, but is it possible to ever
get to a point where I don't have to worry
about passing it on to my future wife?
Will I ALWAYS be in danger of infecting
her for the rest of my life? How slim are
the chances that I can put all this behind
me one day and move on with my life and
never having to worry about explaining
something like this to a woman I want to
marry? Keeping in mind that I would NEVER
want to explain this to anyone and much
less acctually infect someone else!
Any replies and/ or advice would be
GREATLY appreciated...

Yes, once you have HPV, you will probably
have it for life unless they come out with
a cure for it anytime in our lifetime, or
unless your body fights it off
eventually.
They actually came out with an HPV vaccine
for girls not too long ago since HPV is
more serious for women because it can
cause cervical cancer. There is currently
no vaccine for men.
Some people do seem to fight off the virus
in time, but I would not really count on
that happening either.
That means you will have to explain it to
future partners and be careful. You can
avoid sex if you have a breakout and
always use a condom, but that's certainly
not a guarantee that your partner won't
get it.
HPV is pretty common though. It does not
mean your life is over or that you can
never have sex again.
Make sure you talk to your doctor. Get
all of the information you can from him or
her since your doctor is likely to know
about the latest research and
advancements.
