a Lot of Ultrasounds Posted: 07-23-07 18:35pm
Why did my doctor only have one ultrasound
done on me and everybody I talk to now who
is pregnant have ultrasounds all the time.
Well not every appointment but they've had
about 2 or three. What do U think I have
to do? I only got the one for the for my
week 20, to determine the health and the
sex of my baby. Should I tell my doctor I
want another one????????

You can have as many as you want, but
expect to pay out of pocket. Most
insurance won't pay for more than two at
the most. I know that's the way with mine.
My first pregnancy i had 3, and this time
i will have two, the second on the 30th.

I only had two done. One around 6 weeks to
date my pregnancy accurately, and another
around 18-20ish (I forget how far along I
was) for gender determination.
You don't really need more than that if you're
not having complications. You can request
one if you really want, but you'll
probably have to pay for it yourself.

I only had 2. One for the dating and one
for the gender. Oh nvm. I had another one
done whenever I went to a specialist
because I was spilling so much protein.

i was only supposed to have one. but they
found something else in there and i went
through some stuff and my doc felt bad for
me so she sent me for another one "just
because" later on in my pregnancy. i
didn't need it but it was a treat to see
that the baby was okay after all we had
been through before. i guess as long as
they think everything is okay they only
order the one to check the important
stuff. here, we don't have the option of
going again even if we want to, unless we
go to the new 3d/4d place and pay $200 and
up. the ultrasounds here are reserved
only for necessary scans. (i feel kinda
guilty about going when i didn't need to,
but that didn't stop me from going, ).

i had one at 8 weeks, for pregnancy
confirmation.
i had a fetal echo, because i have heart
defect which increases the chance of my
child having one, at about 19 weeks. (we
also found out the baby's sex; a little
girl!)
i have a regular ultrasound set up on
august 20th, but i think it's because i am
switching medical care. (i'm moving from
new jersey to west virginia).
and lastly, i have a second fetal echo
mid-to-late september because they found a
little extra fluid in her kidneys at the
first fetal echo. (they said it's really
nothing to worry about & happens often
to babies; mothers just don't know because
a regular ultrasound doesn't detect it).
those are the only ultrasounds i will be
having during my pregnancy. a lot of woman
who are high risk have more ultrasounds
performed for health reasons. my pregnancy
is high risk, but my baby is doing great,
so they don't see the need to perform a
ton of scans.
** i have been told, though, that in a
normal pregnancy, the woman receives
between one & two ultrasounds.

wow, that's really cheap. my boyfriend
& i have been scoping them out,
looking for good deals, and nothing we
found was anywhere close to that low of a
price. you're pretty lucky!
i was considering a 3.D/4.D ultrasound,
but i think i'm going to pass on it. not
because of the cost, but because i don't
want to see my baby's face in detail, yet.
i want something to be a complete surprise
after all the pain of labor &
delivery! since we opted to
find out the sex, we're leaving her
appearance to the imagination.
i don't disagree with the 3.D/4.D
ultrasound, at all. i heard they're
actually a lot of fun.
