Baby Movment When to Be Concerned? Posted: 07-25-07 17:49pm
I'm sorry for asking about this, but i
don't think my mind will be at ease unless
i find out for sure. I'm 18 weeks
pregnant, and i have felt the baby move,
and i have sometimes felt it for a few
days strait. Now i'm going through days
where i won't feel him/her move at all.
It's got me kinda worried, and a bit
scared? Am i worring over nothing? Or is
this something that i should make a appt
for? I've been kinda depressed the last
few days, and i hope he/shes ok in there
Thanks in advance

try doing a kick count. it's happened to
me too so don't worry. it's pretty normal
to be concerned. usually it's fine.
i'll just copy paste some stuff that i
googled. hope it helps.
Sometime between 18 and 25 weeks into
pregnancy, moms will begin to feel
movement. Most mothers to be eagerly await
that first reassuring flutter, just to
know their baby is growing and developing.
For first time moms, it may occur closer
to 25 weeks and for second or third time
moms, it may occur closer to 18 weeks.
time how long it takes you to feel 10
kicks, flutters, swishes or rolls.
Ideally, you want to feel at least 10
movements within 2 hours. Most likely you
will feel 10 movements in much less time.
Remember: Your baby will normally have
periods when it is asleep, sometimes
lasting as long as four hours; however,
this period should not exceed four hours
Try to schedule the kick count during your
baby's most active time of day, but also a
time when you will be able to record
movements over three or four hours, if
needed
You may want to have a meal or snack
before starting as you probably have
noticed, food often makes your baby
active. (cold water always works best for
me). Some moms prefer sitting with a good
back rest with their arms holding their
belly. Other moms prefer lying on their
left side, which they find most effective
for monitoring their baby. Lying on your
left side also allows for the best
circulation which could lead to a more
active baby. Be sure you have a clock in
view, and note on the kick count chart
what time you start to record movements.
When should I call my physician or midwife
?:
If you have followed the above
recommendations and have not felt 10 kicks
by the end of the second hour, wait a few
hours and try again. If after trying a
second time, you do not feel 10 movements
within 2 hours you should contact your
health care provider.
If you notice a significant deviation from
the pattern over the course of 3 to 4
days.

Thanks for the information Karen! (
forgive me if i got the name wrong. I'm
just starting to get names strait i think
lol) The most movment i felt before was
about 6 times, and that was this last
friday. Even before that i would never
feel him/her move anymore than 2 or 3
times a day. I know i'm only 18 weeks, but
i guess when you feel it, and then you
don't feel anything for 3 days you get a
bit scared. I have never had a miscarrage
before, and it scares me cause i read on
here that one lady had one, and her body
didn't even go into the miscarrage stage.
Her baby just stayed dead. She found out
at her next visit.

yeah, everyone worries about that, it's
only natural. my baby first started
moving around 20 weeks, and even then it
was only a very ocassional little poke
here and there. it didn't become regular
until around 24 weeks actually. i went
through that whole thing a few times where
it just didn't seem like the baby was
doing anything in there, but i would do
the kick count and it would only take
about 5 minutes sometimes, lol. i guess
there must have been times where i got
busy doing other things and just didn't
pay attention to every movement. anyway,
hope it works out and you feel better.
i'm sure things will be just fine!

I had this too, 18 weeks is way to early
to have frequent movements that you can
count. Just relax, your baby will be fine.
It's only when you get to 28 weeks that
you are advised to count 10 movements,
before then its not reliable. Try taking a
bath and relaxing, I know its hard but the
more your worry the more you're going to
put that onto your baby.

You're still a bit early to do kick
counts. I'm 20 weeks and still have days
where I don't feel the baby move much.
Around 19 weeks, I started feeling some
movement every day, but it's erratic and
doesn't seem to follow any patterns except
for when I'm trying to fall asleep at
night, then I can be sure the baby will be
moving! The movements I feel are still
too subtle to do anything like kick
counts.
Many sources say to start kick counts
around the beginning of the third
trimester, at 28-30 weeks.

I was told at 21 weeks that you're not
going to feel the baby as much one day
compared to the nect day. They are still
ratherly small and comfortable in your
tummy. I would feel Casey all day and then
the next I would barley feel him and then
another day I wouldn't feel him at all. I
wouldn't stress over it. . . Wait till
you're 35 weeks and you're able to feel
everything they do. lol
