Cbt Group
Posted: 04-07-04 13:31pm

I have not had any luck finding a cbt group. I know that the anxiety is not going to go away by it self and that I need to get help soon. I just need to find a group here in houston and I hope somebody out there that reads this lives in houston and know's where a cbt group is at. I tried the university and they were not any help. Anybody know where else to look Question because I do not know how to go about doing this and I am really feeling worse everyday. Sad

Hi ajames, I will ask my group leader if he knows how to find a good cbt therapist in houston. I'm going away for easter and won't see him until next week though. I hope someone else here can step in and help you find someone before I get back! Have a happy easter Smile

Hi haley and q have either one of you had any luck asking about a cbt group here in houston Question get this my anixety was so bad yesterday that I went to a differant doctor to see what he thought (what a waste of time and money) he said their is no cure for anxiety and that I would have to keep taking drugs for it. And he says he knows all about anxiety. To me he only knows how to take your money and do nothing to help. Does anybody drink decafe coffee and get anxiety from it Question I know even decafe contains a little bit of caffine but can is cause anxiety Question

Hello ajames. I too am having difficulty finding a cbt group in my area. I am close enough to pittsburgh that I could drive there, but no one seems to know anything about cbt. Or at least, I cannot find anyone who can direct me to the right place.
Anyway, I hardly ever touch caffeine. Even before I realized I had anxiety, I didn't because I know how bad it is for you. Plus, there are infections you can get from it. Like kidney and whatnot. Anyway, now that I have anxiety, I cannot touch coffee. However, every now and then if I have one cup of decaff I will be fine. But that depends on my social surroundings and my mood and how my day was and, well, you know. Everything. I put so much sugar in coffee though that it defeats the purpose of drinking decaff. Laughing my advice on the coffee thing is if you want to try decaf and see if it affects you, then do it someday when you do not have to work and see what happens. Good luck!

Hi ajames, sorry it took so long but I was gone over easter and got back and had my group tonight and asked and my group leader just now e-mailed me a couple of names for you. He warned that he does not know these people personally but looked them up in one of his cbt associations. He said give them each a call and see if either appeals to you. He said he prefers ph.D's because they usually have had more training in cbt. I hope this helps and sorry it took so long Sad

Another Possibility
Posted: 04-20-04 09:15am

Hi ajames-
i got the name of a lady who uses cbt seperately and in conjunction with meds at the university of texas medical branch in houston. Her name is
ruth levine md and she is a psychiatrist. I generally do not like psychiatrists because they tend to focus on meds too much and it is hard to find ones who do cbt. But since she is associated with a university I think there is a good chance she will be good. She also has a research program that is you qualify for it, is usually cost free Laughing

her phone number is (409) 747-9667

hope this helps and you are doing well!

Hi q
thanks for the info I will call her tomorrow. I hope she can help because the others like terrap want to much money that I can not afford. My anxiety has got so bad I wake up with panic somtimes. I think this back surgery I had the end of january has caused my anixety to get worse because I stay in constant pain all the time and all the pain meds do to me when I take them is trigger anxiety. I am so sick of these pain doctors not understanding what the drugs do to me. I am having a rough time dealing with not being able to do things and being in pain all the time and feeling like crap from the anxiety. I am a fighter but I am loosing the battle. I do belive I have sunk into depression and I am afarid to take drugs because of what they do to me. My grandmother had a hard time taking drugs and when she got sick they druged her up so much that it killed her. I am just like her I can not take drugs. Sad I hope things will get better soon for me.

hi ajames-
i hope the lady I got the name of for you will work out for you and be able to help you! I can't imagine having to deal with the pain you are in, in addition to having to fight with anxiety and depression Crying
or Very sad it must be hard but i'm pulling for you and if you can just get over the hump with cbt I think you can beat this Smile if you are able to get out go to your library and read the middle section of the obitz book and try and start practicing the tea-form. Some people get it right away and once you do it helps a lot Idea

take care and i'll keep my fingers crossed that you are able to get into that program Laughing

Klonipin
Posted: 05-05-04 16:04pm

Hi everybody that has helped me. I went to see a different doctor and he gave me a script for klonipin and said the differance between this drug and xanax is that this one stays in the system longer. Have any of you taken klonipin?? I have been on xanax for over 4 years and I have never taken more than 1 1/2 0.5 mg a day and the doctor said that I do not have a addiction problem with this drug but it would be a good idea to try the klonipin. I have been trying to get into a cbt group and now I have to put this on hold because since my back surgery I have had a lot of pain and now my doctor has taken me off my feet until I get a mri on my back.
I hope I do not need more surgery. My anxiety has not been so bad the last few days but now that I am back on pain meds my anxiety is getting bad again. I am in so much pain I have to take the risk of taking pain pills so I can sleep and get through the day. I was told that a pill called elavil 25mg is a anti depressent that will help anxiety and will also help with pain and sleep. Has anyone taken this drug for anxiety and did it work???

Thanks everybody

That's disappointing the woman has not returned your calls. Things are good with me and I am happy to hear the deep relaxation is helping you. Take care and keep in touch!

Please don't give up. I understand you going to another forum, I do understand about the pain meds, I sure hope your back is doing better!
I am sure that houston has pain management clinics you might try hypnosis, pain management clinics can help you out with that. And I do agree, psychiatrists like to put you on more medications where psychologists are better and do not use the meds.
Please keep in touch I sure hope you get better soon!
Sincerely,
sandy

Hey Haley
Posted: 06-03-04 23:48pm

I like that other site for anxiety and what I like most about it is that they have a anxiety chat room that you can go in and talk to others with anxiety and there is allways some one to talk to. I have got to knowing a lot of people through the chat room and they have helped me a lot with my anxiety. To this day I still have not done a post because I stay in the chat room most of the time. Hope to see you there soon so we can chat. :d
