What? When I was a little girl, I found pregnancy sexy too. I would lay with a pillow on my stomach to feel like I was pregnant when I masturbated.

It wasn't in reference to your birth, I was orgasming to my dream-birth. One woman in the 10 minute preview even admitted to orgasming during the birthing process, and I've read it elsewhere too. I don't think it's such an odd thing lol.

I think that her having an orgasm during birth was an odd thing whoever she was. I simply can't imagine being able to have one in the middle of all that pain.

The medicalization of birth is likely why few have heard of orgasming when giving birth - and even fewer have actually experienced it.

This should come as no surprise when most women in North America give birth in a crowded room with bright lights hooked up to monitors and IVs. Consider instead a quiet, private, dimly lit room at home - much more relaxing.

Tension increases pain. Being tense/not relaxed leads to pain during sex and difficulty to orgasm.

Doesn't it logically follow that a more relaxed woman will have less painful birth? Isn't it also true that orgasm is more likely in a situation where the woman feels safe and relaxed (and where she doesn't have a large audience)?

That's the point...

Apparently, birth does not necessarily have to be painful (exceptions are ripping and whatnot). I read a neat site about non-painful birth, and how it is a pressure and an energy and most women are taught to interpret it as pain but you don't have to interpret it that way. Once these women choose to interpret as not pain, they actually enjoyed the birthing process and I've read several reports of women orgasming during birth.

I think i might give water birth a try next time. It doesnt seem too bad just by the looks of it on TLC and discovery health channels. Even one of my friends suggested I try it with my daughter but I didnt do it. I told her maybe next time lol.

Go through my birth experience and feel what I felt and you'll understand why I find it odd. Every unassisted birth is not some beautiful, moving experience. Mine was pain pure and simple starting about two hours after my water broke. I stayed in my home for another two hours before going to the hospital and I was ready to rip heads off and crawl in the corner like an animal and lick my wounds. There was no "interpreting" the sensation as pain, it was pain. Like I have never felt before in my life and hope never to feel again. It was not pressure. There would be no way in hell I could have an orgasm feeling what I felt.

I want you to remember that every woman is different. So, you felt pain... that doesn't mean I will, or other women will.

Yes, I understand that but I'm also trying to make people understand where I'm coming from as well. Also when I was pregnant I had my head filled with a lot of this birthing as a beautiful, slightly uncomfortable feeling talk as well and I think that it does a disservice to pregnant women to gloss over the fact that birth can be painful. I think that if I had been prepared to view it more realistically I wouldn't have been so knocked out by the pain. Granted it still wouldn't have changed my birth experience but I wouldn't have been suckers. I know for some people that level of pain isn't the case but I'm trying to present the other side as well. I hope that no one else feels what I felt, hell I hope that if I have another child that I don't feel what I felt but let's just prepare people for the chance that there could be serious pain.

I don't know how you guys do it. I'm tentatively starting to consider having kids, but the whole idea of birth makes me cringe. I'm kind of weird. I deal with actual pain okay, while I'm in it, but the idea of being in pain freaks me out. So yeah, you're a lot braver than me. Laughing

Also, I'm gonna try to interpret my next dental treatment as 'not pain' and see how that goes. Getting a crown is a sensual experience! Razz

I was going to do a water birth, but not all hospitals offer them because they increase the chance of infection... I laboured in the bath but once you hit really hard labour it makes no difference where you are - hope this helps

You're very welcome.

I don't know about the costs of a hospital birth - with or without a birthing tub, sorry. All hospital births (and homebirths) are totally free in Canada. If we visit the hospital we don't even know what the bill would be.

Lol. Oh, Georgia! Smile

I have heard that some insurance companies in the US do cover homebirths and midwife services (depends on the state - in some states it isn't technically legal).

If homebirth is something you're seriously interested in, you could check out your insurance coverage and make sure you're with a company that does cover homebirth.... before you even ttc.

At one point during my labor I rocked back and forth on a birthing ball, and it quite literally felt like I had a knife up my vagina, and every time I rocked it felt like I was being sliced open. Not very orgasmic, but to each their own. Laughing
