Anyone had the amnio test done? I am 35
and want to get pregnant again I do not
want to have this test done becuase of my
age. Do they only give it if something is
wrong or as procaution due to age?

Hi and welcome!!
I dont know where you are from so this may
be different from what is done for you.
But I am fairly certain that amnio tests
are only offered to women who have high
risk pregnancy's. My sister had one with
her 1st child and she was only 19. This
was because they were worried her baby may
have had downs sydrome.
Your age might make you a higher risk
patient but no one can force you to have
these tests done if you dont want them.
They are only offered and you dont have to
accept. Before the test is offered you
will be talked through all the reasons why
they would think you will need to have it
done and you will be given some time so
you can make the best decision on what you
want to do.
Good luck, I hope you get pregnant soon!

what i've been told is that they only do
them if they think it is worth the risk
because there is a slight risk of rupture
and premature labour. i think you do the
triple screen blood test first and then
they determine from that whether you
should have the amnio done. there are
also things that they look for during an
ultrasound fetal assessment that are signs
of down's syndrome.

a lot of docs will recomend you have it
done, but like jo said no one can force
you, if you dont sign the papers they cant
do it
i had one done (i am 1 because my triple
screen test showed higher risk of downs,
but she didnt have it, and i didnt have a
miscarrige
i suggest getting the triple screen before
you decide anything though, if it doesnt
matter to you if the baby could have a
genetic defect then dont get it
in my case the risk of downs was higher
then the risk of miscarrige so i did it, i
wouldnt have aborted either way, i just
wanted to know what i was getting myself
into
