Many women become depressed during the menopause and it is fairly normal that Lexapro be prescribed for this. Hot flashes are not due to depression but to excessive production of the hormone "FSH" by the pituitary gland. Estrogen hormones are also given to women to overcome the symptoms of menopause. You can consult your gynecologist about this treatment possibility and to chart a treatment plan during this time.
