Here's a copy of a post I recently sent to
Michael Moore:
I saw SICKO and was blown away - of
course. My wife wept through the whole
thing - I did too, but tried to hide it
Since I am one of
the 50,000,000 Americans with no
insurance, I want to fight back any way I
can.
I have a great weapon for anyone who's
insurance company is giving a hard time
to, or denying their claims.
I used to work for Blue Shield in Red
Bluff, CA (they are in Redding, CA now),
and they told us something interesting
during our customer service training.
They told us that anytime any customer
says they are going to call their state
Insurance Commissioner, to transfer them
to a supervisor IMMEDIATELY!
The supervisor will give them whatever
they want pretty much every time.
I have since told a few people about that
when they were telling me their insurance
denial stories, and it has worked in every
case where they have done this.
My mother's insurance company was giving
her a hard time, I told her to tell them
she was going to call the Insurance
Commissioner. So she did. Immediately
they transferred her to a supervisor and
VOILA! They paid her claim - no questions
asked - no problem. Service with a
smile...
According to our trainer at Blue Shield of
CA, Insurance companies are scared to
death of the Insurance Commissioner
because they launch an investigation/audit
which costs the insurance company a lot of
money - and we all know insurance
companies hate to spend money.
Anyway, I just want to do my small part in
joining the revolution by offering this
powerful tool to folks. Here's a website
that lists the Insurance Commissioner in
every state. There is a link to every
Insurance Commissioners website in every
state, along with a phone number by each
link:
Interesting side note - when I worked for
Blue Shield, they kept us as "Temps" for 3
or more years and never provided health
insurance to us!
Anyway Mike, great job on SICKO! I hope
you encourage your readers to use this
tactic - it really does work. Maybe it's
a way to force the insurance companies and
HMO's to to provide the services that
their customers have paid for!

This will only work if the insurance
company has done something wrong, which
most times it hasn't. State insurance
commissioners are also just as wise to the
scams that doctors and patients play on
insurance companies and only investigate
legitimate complaints, not ones by
insureds who think they're entitled to
have everything they want paid because
they pay their premiums each month,
regardless of what their contract states.
And if the insurance company does get a
big fine...guess who ends up paying. You.
When your premiums are jacked up the
following year.
So only try this if you have an actual
legitimate complaint. Otherwise it's
going to backfire on you. Guaranteed.
