Gall Bladder Pain Normal Tests Posted: 07-31-07 23:54pm
Hi all.
First off, I have no large intestine or
rectum. I have a J-pouch inside me,
instead. Had a colectomy due to
ulcerative colitis. I do not have an
ostomy bag.
I have read that people with a J-pouch are
prone to gall bladder failure.
I started off having very bad acid reflux
that barely responded to any medications
for a few months. It was so bad I ended up
losing a lot of weight. That started to
go away as I developed this pain on my
right side which radiates around my back.
The pain has gotten worse and worse over
the past few weeks, especially when I eat
fatty foods. I am also constipated which,
if you understand how the large intestine
works, is VERY odd for me. I ALWAYS have
diarrhea.
I have had an ultrasound, CT scan and HIDA
scan, all normal. The only abnormality,
other than the pain, constipation and acid
reflux, is increased Lipase levels.
My pain is almost constant, sometimes its
just dull but it's usually pretty bad. I
also always have the sensation that
something large and round is stuck under
my ribs.
My gastro doctor is very concerned that I
could have developed pancreatitis from the
gall bladder troubles, even though they
aren't showing up on the tests. He
believes I will probably need to have it
removed, which is fine with me.. the darn
thing hurts. I have an appointment later
today with mt surgeon. I was just
wondering if anyone here had the same
problem, with the tests not showing
anything, or knows anyone with a similar
problem.
Thanks!
Sarah

gall bladder pain with negative tests. Posted: 02-29-08 21:27pm
Dear flyte,
How did you get this resolved. I have had
pain in my upper right stomach radiating
to my right back. This has been going on
for almost 2 months now. The pain lessens
at times but never entirely goes away. At
times even pain meds only take the edge
off for me, the pain is so severe...mostly
after I have eaten and at night. All of my
gall bladder tests were normal but when I
had the HIDA scan it hurt so much it took
my breath away. My gastro doctor referred
me to a surgeon but he just referred me
back to my gastro doctor. I feel like a
human pingpong ball. Next week, I'm going
for a second opinion with a surgeon. I
have had these attacks before but none has
lasted this long or been this painful. I'd
be very interested to hear your story
after your July of 2007 post.
sgk I'm curious to know how your appt
turned out. Considering that was back in
Feb. I'm in the same boat....been doing
this since 10/2007. One test after
another, blood work, scans/scopes etc.
And constantly asked "do you still have
your gall bladder". However tests keep
coming back normal therefore yes, still
have the gall bladder.

resolution to my pain Posted: 05-06-08 17:16pm
Dear sboat,
The second-opinion surgeon recommended
that I have my gall bladder out. He said
in 50% of cases with the test showing
normal taking the gall bladder out will
resolve the pain. So, I had it out 2
months ago. I have not had the same pain
since. The pathologist's report came back
that the gall bladder had chronic
inflammation. I was also having all over
itching. The nurse tried to tell me it was
from the percocet but after the surgery I
was on the percocet and have not
experienced itching since.
The 1st 2 days after the laparoscopic
surgery were pretty painful but every day
after that was better. I haven't had any
diarrhea but I have had more gas.
Although, that seems to be improving the
further from the surgery I get.
I wish you luck this is no fun.

sbk, thank you! Good to hear that you are
doing better. I'll see if I can push the
Dr. Hope you continue to improve.

gallbladder pain normal results Posted: 05-09-08 00:34am
sgk and sboat,
So glad I found this place. I have been
experiencing the same thing. I have had
this terrible pain the past two weeks that
is in my upper stomach/mid chest that
radiates to my back/r shoulder blade. I
have been nauseous but not throwing up.
Today, I had a gallbladder ultrasound that
came back negative. I am so frustrated.
This pain keeps me awake at night. I dont
know where ot go from here. I cant seem
to get the doc to take me serious. He
keeps acting like I am imagining the pain.
