Orthotics - Suggestions On Chiropractor Vs. Physio Posted: 08-01-07 00:08am
I have had back pain for 7 years. I have
been active but not as much as I used to,
as I used to be an athlete. I am still in
good shape.
Anyways the back hurts after sitting. I
have been to chiropractors over the years
but usually give up. The first one saw
that my legs are different lengths. The
one where I have moved now says that my
pelvis is out of alignment after getting
xrays. Well I am considering not
continuing with Chiropractor but doing
more massage and stretching like yoga.
That always seems to help. I also find
massage helps and have tried so many
therapies and diagnosis. I want to put an
end to this but am losing faith so maybe
massage and yoga are best and remaining
active.
I also think I should get orthotics but
want some advice about where to get it and
if I should get advice from my
chiropractor but I am a little untrusting
towards chiropracors -it seems they can
not help but really want to convince me
they can.
Can physiotherapists do this orthotic
business? And I think I will just go to
physio to get also some adjustments and
exercise since they seem more realistic
about not wanting me to go in alot. I
also have been worse since the
chiropractor does not want me to exercise
for the first week here.
Well if you can answer something for me I
would appreciate it.

I am a chiropractor and first and foremost
it depends on your goals. If you want to
treat back pain that is one thing, but
going to the chiropractor is about a lot
more. Regular adjustments can help to
prevent your body from decaying, just like
going to the dentist to prevent tooth
decay.
Different people are different. That is
why there are so many different options.
Some people will receive benefit from one
treatment more than others. If you've
given chiropractic a fair chance, as in
following your chiropractor's care plan,
then with regards to treating back pain it
might be an idea to try something else,
physiotherapy or acupunture for example.
If you notice massage and yoga work for
you, do those. Orthotics can help people
with back pain as well. There should be
no problem just having orthotics done with
a chiropractor, many do them and if you
have a good chiropractor then you should
be able to say what you want and have that
and only that. Not as many
physiotherapists do them. You could also
go to a podiatrist or foot doctor.

Hello Westcoastdrum,
It is time (long overdue) for you to seek
the advice of a neurologist/spinal
surgeon. And do seek out the best spinal
doctor that you can find in your area.

You can see for yourself if your pelvis is
misaligned or not from your pictures. The
most common reason for back pains is
misaligned pelvis. But not all
chiropractors know how to correct it.
Usually they just try to twist pelvis. I
have experience on that as a patient. It
took 15 years untill I found one who could
correct it.
